Sea lovers, are you tired of the daily grind, your thoughts wandering to the daydream of waves brushing the sand, a memory of peace and a time of contentment? Or, do you live by the sea, soaking up the joy of God’s power with each surge and sound of waves breaking on the shore? Are you a sea lover?
There is almost a supernatural draw of coastal areas on the human heart. Every summer thousands pack their bags and head for the sea. What is this magic that captures and bewitches us?
Children delight in their freedom, jump at the water’s edge, squeal as waves cover their toes, laugh as dad is buried by sand. Teens play volleyball, or walk the beaches hoping to attract some attention, while adults smile and enjoy time with each other. There is a surge of love and goodwill at the ocean’s edge. Many feel the comfort of the climate and are awed by the enormity and power of the sea.
Before dawn, fishing boats make their way from the docks to the deep sea, and before sunset return with their daily catch. It’s hard work, but it’s in their blood, and a fisherman would never consider another career. Businessmen and women leave the sea behind, heading for their daily jobs, but they know they’ll return at the day’s end. And many take their laptops to the beach tenterpriseo conduct their business.
Our senses are on full alert, stimulated by the pungent salt air mixing with the aroma of sea life, the cry of seagulls flying overhead, and the caress of the continuous ocean breeze. When the sun beats down, we feel the contrast of heat and cold, warm and cool. The textures contrast, too: the soft stimulation of dry sand between the toes, the hard jolt of walking on wet sand, and the shock of cold against hot skin when the first wave catches us. The sea also arouses our senses of awe and fear and excitement with violence and power. Who can doubt the presence of God with the constant change and grip of the haunting sea?
