5 Affiliate Marketing Basics

First: Know your market. You will have to develop a niche in a market that interests you. Than you must learn everything you can about the market you will be promoting. It is also necessary to have a commitment to yourself to do whatever you must to achieve success in this market.

Second: Create a business plan. When a new person fails to make a plan, that person is really planning to fail and will get nowhere as an affiliate marketer. Your plan is a path to follow and will keep you on the right tract and keep you from wandering around wondering what to do next. A plan also enables you to track your progress and make changes when necessary.

Third: Join an affiliate program. Probably start with just one or two as this is the most difficult part, but once you know the procedure, it will become much easier. It is important in deciding to pay attention to the program’s commission it pays to you. You should be looking at programs paying at least 50 percent of informational products. Study the sales website paying attention to the headline. Also watch for problems, benefits and features of the product. Can you tell exactly what the site is selling by looking at it? Does the program offer affiliate support and materials? Looking at these things will help you determine how well the site will convert.

Fourth: Determine where you will promote your program. The best way is to get a website which allows you to brand yourself and set a niche. Many domain hosting programs will provide you with a website so all you need to do is create and buy a domain name.

Fifth: Traffic. Probably the most difficult part is getting lots of visitors to your site. Good ways to start are with search engine traffic and by writing keyword rich articles and submitting them to online article directories. This helps you get higher rankings with search engines as you will have many one-way links and a higher number of visitors.
