Taking account with the changes in history, sexy lingerie serves different purposes.
Many women have been wearing sexy lingerie for years now but only a few knows how it came about. The idea of wearing an item had always given us the excitement attributable to the pleasure and comfort it brings. Where did sexy lingerie come from? What where the first worn types of such clothing?
Tracking down to the roots of its existence, it has been first seen on women in Ancient Rome and Greece. One of the predominantly used items back then was the corset. This was used to enhance the bust area of women allowing their breasts to be seen literally outside their dresses.
It was in the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period when people thought of having lingerie not just merely for fashion but for support. They wanted something else to support not just their breasts but their buttocks as well. The following items were widely used during that era:
· Silhouette. This sexy lingerie provides full support to the buttocks and the bust area. Its function was one of the reasons why lingerie shifted from the so-called fashion to purpose stage. Amongst the many types of silhouettes used was the S-silhouette which served as a very good figure shaper. As the name connotes, it made womens figure form the shape of the letter S blown-up breasts, smaller waistlines and larger-than-life buttocks at that.
· Corsets. Back in the Renaissance period, it was used not just to enhance the breast area but also to flatten the abdomen. It brought about the idea for women to use whale bones to support the term of what we call today as toning of abs.
· Stockings. Who says stockings were used just for protection of the legs? This was also used as a figure enhancing item during the Renaissance. With the help of garters and suspenders, it created a different look for the buttocks.
The era of industrialisation came about in the 1900s when corsets already went out of style. There was a wide variety of sexy lingerie that emerged in the market. Included in this period where:
· Brassieres. Brassieres gave more comfort on the part of women as they were only to hook-up two to three hasps when wearing them. Corsets took too much time and effort to produce a body-hugging figure. The first bras however which were introduced in 1913 was blown by the idea of putting two handkerchiefs together by the use of a string. These were comfortably used by women in work as it provides a softer finish.
· Chemises and Bloomers. In the 1920s, there was a desire to twist from an exaggerated figure to a lighter, flatter version. Chemises and bloomers were then worn to produce a lighter and flatter figure. However, in the 1930s, they felt a need to go back to tradition.
During the 1970s when women wanted to expose more of their assets and wear mini-skirts, the concept of the bikini-strap underwear came to existence. Later on, thongs were introduced in the market. To-date, sexy lingerie is being used for various purposes. On top of that is to enhance body figure and without denial, to attract the opposite sex as well. This is one of the reasons why throughout its existence, sexy lingerie is also termed as exotic.
