Are You Likely to Be Hit by Panic Disorder?

When a person taking a walk through the forest encounters a poisonous snake or some other wild animal, his/her normal respond would be to panic and to run away from the beast as fast as possible.

When these same feelings of fear and horror come to surface with no sound reasons and if they occur in a very safe environment (while walking on the beach or watching a movie at the local cinema) you do not have to be an expert to conclude that something is not right with your health. Witnessing a few of such episodes in relatively short time frame (a few weeks or months) might be an indication that the person has developed panic disorder.

At the very beginning the victims become extremely scared and baffled. The non psychological signs of panic disorder which might include palpitations, nausea, shortness of breath, dizziness, excessive sweating, jelly legs etc. make the patient to ensure themselves that something completely different is going on inside their bodies. Victims usually ask for help at the wrong places. They go to a whole range of different medical practitioners undergoing numerous checks and tests because they are almost certain that the problem is with their heart, lungs, blood pressure and so on. The mental health practitioner is usually not on their list to visit.

While experiencing the panic attack patients usually believe that they have some kind of the life threatening condition, they are going to die on the spot, going crazy or to lose their mind. Panic attack can occur every time when the victims find themselves in a particular situation or it can just hit without a clear reason regardless of the circumstances. A big number of individuals suffering from panic disorder also develop agoraphobia (fear of open or jammed places from which in a case of panic attack would be difficult to run away or to seek and receive assistance.)

Panic attacks can even strike during the sleep. Hot weather also has an affect on panic disorder because victims have more panic attacks during the warm summer days. The main reasons for this are that hot weather accelerates pulse, induces dizziness and dehydration. Also, during these days people are more likely to spend their time outdoors so there is a much higher possibility of running into unfamiliar and unpleasant situations and places.

Despite the fact that the real causes of panic disorder are unknown, some researches have concluded that some kinds of people are more likely to suffer of this condition than the others. This group includes people who are shy by nature and who tend is to be worried and over concerned about every aspect of their lives. They constantly question their own abilities and are always unsure whether they are good enough to complete their tasks and responsibilities. The signs of their insecurity and fears are usually noticeable from their early childhood (blushing, sweaty palms, palpitations, feeling uncomfortable in front of older, unknown people or in front of the authoritative figures.) Those kids spend a lot of time daydreaming and imagining things and have no agonistic spirit and behavior. While sleeping they might also experience dreadful dreams and have accidents with urinating in bed. Their perception of other individuals is sort of naive because they cannot see the hidden intentions of nasty people. Even after repetitive and countles disappointments they do not change their behavior.

It is important to remember that panic disorder is very common mental health problem in our society. Although individuals that show some of the above mentioned symptoms in their childhood are in greater risk of developing panic disorder in their mature years, not everyone will. On the contrary, some very confident people that are easygoing and have no apparent problems in their lives might be struck by this condition with no warnings or a logical explanation.
