Nearly 1 million jobs are predicted to be created in Brazil by the end of 2008, so says the tourism department in Brazil as a result of heightened holiday makers. Walfrido doe Mares Guia, the minister of the tourist board, says that ‘Six hundred thousand careers have been fashioned as a result of tourism and a further 300,000 jobs are to be created before the end of 2008’. Congratulations are due to the Brazilian government who have shelled money into developing existing infrastructure around Brazil for tourism, this programme is known as ‘PRODETUR’.
Thanks to PRODETUR over $670m has been ploughed in infrastructure; the building of eight airports, construction and/or improvement of 1020km roads, recovery of 732,000 sqm of historic heritage areas, ecological conservation of 70,426 hectares and the appointment of 150 government bodies to oversee these and tourism activities.
Due to the success of this programme, the “PRODETUR 2” has now been set in motion with an approximate investment of $400m.To proceed the achievement of the Government’s proposal, Brazil tourism has increased from 4.1m (2003) to 6m (2006) foreign holiday makers a year, the tourism has increased to 25%.
Brazil is the 6th most populous country in the World after the US, Russia, India, Russia and Indonesia. 62% of Brazilians are under 29 years old.. Brazil is seen as a future world super power.
According to the Brazilian Embassy, Brazil has the tenth biggest economy in the world, with a GDP of 523,070 million dollars in 2003, almost half of Latin America’s GDP and one of the main markets in the world with 170 million consumers.With a stable democracy, one hundred million Brazillians voted in the last elections. It is the second largest economy in the developing world and Goldman Sachs forecast that by 2050 Brazil will be the World’s 5th biggest economy.In 2003 – 2006, Brazil ran record trade surpluses and recorded its first current account surpluses since 1992. International Monetary Fund considers that Brazil has been creating a solid foundation and a good framework of financial responsibility that is now delivering sustained primary surpluses and doing a good job of keeping inflation under check.
