Bradford offers a unique combination of a cosmopolitan university city with its own international airport, close to Leeds, Harrogate and York, coupled with beautiful surroundings with the Yorkshire Dales national park and Ilkley Moor just a short drive away.
Also nearby is the beautiful Brontë Parsonage Museum in the charming village of Haworth, the former residence of the Brontë sisters Emily, Charlotte and Anne and their brother Branwell. From the Parsonage Museum, it is also possible to take walks to view the Brontë waterfalls where the sisters were said to meet and Top Withens, the deserted building in a windswept location on the moors above Haworth, said to be the inspiration for Wuthering Heights. The Parsonage and the surrounding countryside attract a wealth of international tourists each year.
The city has a fabulous reputation for the Arts with the world famous IMAX cinema and National Media Museum, Alhambra theatre and St Georges Concert Hall all hosting events throughout the year. Bradford also has an impressive cathedral and the town hall (renamed City Hall) is a beautiful example of Victorian architecture in the Neo-Gothic style.
The Manningham area of the city houses Cartwright Hall, Bradford’s civic art gallery, which is set in the glorious grounds of Lister park, with a boating lake, landscaped gardens, tennis courts, adventure playground, Mughal Gardens and café. Bradford is also surrounded by many stately homes including Cliffe Castle and Bolling Hall.
The Bradford area is home to many beautiful Victorian buildings and museums illustrating the significance of the area in the Industrial Revolution, most importantly the UNESCO World Heritage Site at nearby Saltaire and the Salts Mill Museum. The buildings in Bradford city centre, such as those in Little Germany and on Manor Row are particularly beautiful examples of Victorian architecture. The area has also recently benefitted from regeneration funding with some of these buildings being restored to their former glory, namely the old customs and excise building on Manor Row, which has just been opened as Malik House (www.malikhouse.co.uk), a new business and conference centre.
There is something for everybody in Bradford. It is a rapidly developing city with great opportunities for new business and tourism.
