Cloud computing : What lies beneath?

Cloud computing is Internet based development which is called as cloud and use of computer technology is the computing. It is a style of computing in which dynamically scalable and often virtualised resources are provided as a service over the Internet. Users need not have knowledge or expertise/control over the technology infrastructure and “the cloud” supports them in easy going.

To satisfy the computing needs of the users, the cloud computing concept incorporates Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS) and Software as a Service (SaaS) as well as Web 2.0 and other recent technology trends.

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is the delivery of virtual computer infrastructure consists of everything as a service trend and shares many of the common characteristics.

Platform as a Service (PaaS) called as cloudware, is an outgrowth of the SaaS application delivery model which makes all of the facilities required to support web applications without any software downloads or installation for developers, IT managers or end-users.

Software as a Service (SaaS) is a model of software deployment whereby a provider licenses an application to customers for use as a service on demand and disabling it after use or after the on-demand contract expires. The companies like Salesforce.com, Google, NetSuite, Taleo and Concur Technologies are already established in the On-Demand software and charge their customers a subscription fee and in return host software on central servers that are accessed by the end user via the internet.

Economics
The benefits of using Cloud computing is to avoid capital expenditure (CapEx) on hardware, software and services, paying only for what they use. Consumption is billed on a utility e.g. resources consumed, like electricity or subscription e.g. time based, like a newspaper basis with little or no upfront cost.

The companies which are the forefronts of cloud computing
Providers including Amazon, Google and Yahoo exemplify the use of cloud computing. It is being adopted by individual users through large enterprises including General Electric, L'Oréal, and Procter & Gamble.

Internet based companies that will gain from a shift towards cloud computing include Amazon.com, Yahoo!, Microsoft and Google. Software Producers that gain from a shift towards cloud computing include Google, NetSuite, Salesforce.com, Taleo, RightNow Technologies, Concur Technologies, Omniture, Hyperic and Quest Software.

Software producers that will have some catching up to do if cloud computing ultimately wins out include Oracle, SAP AG, Blackbaud and Lawson Software.

Cloud computing in India
IBM Corp. has opened four new cloud computing centres in emerging markets. They are in Bangalore, India; Sao Paulo, Brazil; Seoul, Korea; and Hanoi, Vietnam; areas where there are increasing demand for Internet-based computing models and skills to help companies compete in highly competitive environments. With previously opened centres in both emerging and mature markets, IBM now has 13 cloud computing centres, the world's largest network of expertise on cloud computing, claims the company.

IBM launched a company-wide initiative that extends its traditional software delivery model toward a mix of on-premise and cloud computing applications with new software, services and technical resources for clients and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs). IBM's new cloud services can help businesses of all sizes more easily adopt cloud computing models to better manage data, lower operational costs and make collaboration easier.

IBM has significantly integrated the benefits of cloud computing into its client service infrastructure. Through the IBM Cloud Computing Centers, they enable the client’s transition to the New Enterprise Data Center and provide them the freedom to innovate.

Accessing your desktops from remote locations is catching on among the Indian Internet community. Nivio, India’s first online Windows desktop, is one such software that allows users to access data and applications stored on a PC from another remote PC in the world. Nivio and Critix are two such softwares which allow you to view your operating system on your personal desktop and transfer data between the two devices.

Also Sun Microsystems, Inc. announced acquisition of Q-layer, a cloud computing company that automates the deployment and management of both public and private clouds. The Q-layer organization, based in Belgium, will become part of Sun's Cloud Computing business unit which develops and integrates cloud computing technologies, architectures and services in whole world.
