By changing the recipe and altering the things you use to prepare it, your chicken dishes will be healthier and taste as good, if not better than the original dish.

One of the first things to do is to look at some of the ingredients commonly used in our favorite recipes that may increase the sodium, calorie, and fat content. Many of our favorite chicken recipes often ask us to deep fry. Others will include those cream sauces that have tons of fat and calories. Others will have high sodium content due to those salt based seasoning.

Knowing which ingredients makes our chicken dishes less healthy for us, we can begin to learn how to alter those recipes or create new ones for healthier alternatives. You can actually add more flavor and some of the recipes will save you time in preparing them. There are some easy tips we can follow to create healthier dishes and healthier cooking.

For healthy meals, we should always use fresh ingredients. Processed products normally have higher amounts of sodium. Those all-important nutrients can be lost with canned vegetables and you will always find more flavor in fresh herbs and vegetables. When we are cooking healthy chicken recipes, it is important that we use a skinless product. You can buy chicken without the skin, or we can take the skin off prior to cooking. This will reduce the amount of fat for the chicken dish.

How we cook will also influence the amount of fat and calories we add to the dish. We all love that deep fried chicken that is full of calories and fat. We can change how we do this recipe. Instead of deep-frying, we can bread the chicken and lightly brown it in a skillet using a little bit of olive oil or a non-stick spray. It will still be golden brown with less fat. You can simply put it in the oven with some white wine to finish the cooking process. It will be just as tasty, with a lot less fat and calories.

You can also begin to do more grilling. This is a great way to prepare chicken and make it a healthier dish. Simply marinate the chicken with fresh herbs or even make your own marinade will low fat ingredients like low fat dressings. You can create a healthy meal with your grilled chicken by serving with fresh vegetables and nice long grain rice.

Those wonderful cream sauces are loaded with calories and fat. You can do some simple changes to create lighter and healthier sauces. Instead of whole milk, try using a skim or fat free milk. You can always use a low fat yogurt to create the sauce as well. Stop using butter and begin to use margarine or other fat free product. There are many low sodium broths and chicken stocks to buy that are a better choice. You will still have all of those great flavors with less fat and calories. Fresh herbs in sauces will give you great taste as well.

Healthy chicken recipes are delicious and fun to make. The recipes just need to be changed some to make them healthier. Simply change how you cook and some of the ingredients and you are well on your way. You can find many healthy chicken recipes on the internet or in many cookbooks available to buy.
