Do Not Listen To The Guru! Only One True Way To Generate Website Traffic

I recently read an article by a so called, "Guru." I was disgusted with the breadcrumbs of knowledge he attempted to bait me with. I went on to read several more article by these second class marketing. According to the knowledge that was given. I doubt they had a full understanding of the entire well-oiled machine. I will give it all up over the course of this month, March 2010. I am am not, as of yet a "Guru." I will tell you this, both my parents are programmers. Had my first site at age 11 in the beginning, before WWW. I was around before the dot.com crash! I was certified web designer before finishing high school. I have been using these skills to generate traffic for close to ten years, starting when the Internet was widely known as "America Online." Just a little background for rapport.

Let us get started.

First and foremost, there is only one way to promote a website. Building inward links or creating links on other websites pointing to yours. That is it and all. Now, what these "Gurus" attempt to speak on are the different methods and their variations for creating these, "Backlinks" and increasing your "Link Popularity." There are close to 30 different methods of creating backlinks. A Variation refers to the ability to customized the method for your niche or target audience. I am not attempting to sell any products, so only one tool will be mentioned. One that I wrote and own all rights over. You will use it for free. As for the other tools, I will inform you of the features that will be helpful depending on the traffic method being utilized. At that point you can decide what tools YOU would like to use.

Quality

Before I can begin with the first link building method, I need you to understand what links you want and which ones are worthless. Links generate one of three types of traffic. Direct, Organic, and Referral.
Direct traffic is when someone enters your address in the browser or possibly a link that uses the _new/_blank target attribute. Organic is traffic from any search engine by way of keyword. Referral speaks for itself, traffic from another site.

Depth is very important, "How many clicks away from the homepage is you link?" Your link should be no more than two levels deep.

Anchor Text. When possible your anchor text should be your keywords.
You should use two or three variations of anchor text for each keyword. Hint: The search engines ignore the order of keywords. In most cases, Article Marketing => Marketing Articles, are viewed as the same keyword.

Content. Your link should be on a page that is highly related to your content or niche. This is why articles are so popular.

Location. The visible location of the link that the search engine spider and the visitor sees. Your link being above the fold or visible without having to scroll is just as important to SEO as the referrals themselves.

Domain. Not only is the actual page a factor in link popularity, but the nature and popularity of the domain is taken into consideration.

Pagerank. A high pr rank for the page or domain on which your link is listed. As a rule of thumb, try to get links on pages with fewer than 25-30 live links.

Alexa Rating. The lower the rating for a site the more popular it is. Try to gather most of your links from sites that are under a million.
Note: High PageRank does not determine traffic volume. PageRank more accurately measures quality. High traffic sites can have low pr, because of quality scores.
