Dressing a newborn correctly

Giving birth is a life-changing event. The nine months of preparation before the new baby arrives are just a precursor to the continued learning that takes place as you discover the many joys and some pains that go along with adapting your entire life to that of the new baby. It is important to learn so much so fast about these ever-changing little people that can amaze and awe us with every little thing they do.

As a new parent, particularly a new mom, you may find it virtually overwhelming at times when it comes to caring for your newborn. If this feeling comes, you should not hesitate to ask for help, even when it comes to caring for the baby. The first few weeks and months after giving birth are a very critical time for both mother and baby. A good support system of people who can help with household chores, cooking and even tending to the new baby is paramount to avoiding those feelings of being overwhelmed or depression.

An important factor in caring for the newborn is ensuring that you are dressing the baby correctly. Newborns do not have the warmth buffer that individuals with more weight have. Because babies are so small, it is important to dress your newborn correctly so that their extremities do not get cold, no matter what time of year it is. One article of clothing that works well as a foundation are the functional baby onesies. This cozy article of clothing provides your newborn with a snug one-piece garment that either snaps between baby’s legs or behind the neck if the onesie is a pull-on type.

Originally, most tee shirts were constructed of white cotton and served as an undershirt to be worn under the newborn’s clothing. Today, onesies are available in a variety of colors, fabrics and styles. Colorfully decorated onesies can carry a message about your baby’s personality or have an eye-catching phrase on them that’s exclusively designed and certain to be one of a kind.

Even during warm months, it is important to ensure that your newborn is properly clothed. Clothing should not be too tight or layered too heavily as this could cause the baby to sweat, which can result in a heat rash on the baby’s body. Likewise, in the winter, the layers are essential to keeping baby’s fingers and toes warm. Their tiny little extremities can suffer frostbite easily if exposed to the cold of winter.

When at home, your newborn may start out enjoying being swaddled but soon enough you will discover that he or she wants to stretch their little arms and legs and may squirm uncomfortably to be bundled up where they cannot move. Dressing your newborn correctly at home should also be reflective of keeping the house at a suitable temperature. Too hot can cause the baby to catch a cold when he or she does go out and too cold can also be a hazard to the newborn’s health.
