Why are large crowds of people coming to Twitter? What is the purpose of more than 3,000,000 people currently using this website? What is the purpose of high technological companies using this?
Let us divide it in two parts. What is Twitter and instead of asking why people rush for Twitter, we should ask the question about how the people are using Twitter. I am going to tackle it as a list, since people like lists more.
What is Twitter?
Twitter is simply put a social networking site that allows you to post in messages in under 140 characters. This is sometime referred to as micro blogging.
These updates or tweets known as Twitter, provides the users the benefits to the users for sharing the messages, status updates, what they are doing to anyone who has decided to follow each tweet and really connect with the people who follow them. The members can get these updates through the twitter website, an RSS feed, text message, email, numerous applications including other blogging, social media websites and more.
Why Do People Use Twitter? (or as my spouse would ask, ”Why in the world do people care what you’re doing?”)
Networking: A great way to meet people. If you are in a business with a niche market, you can discover new people that have similar interests to yours.
Marketing: I don’t just mean big companies like Comcast, Dell and such. I’m talking about branding and marketing yourself. You’re putting yourself out there the world to see. I get a lot of business by just being on Twitter and talking about what I am doing in the world of social media.
Breaking News: Twitter has made it possible for me to stay up with the news in a way I never have been able to before. Take for example, when the last earthquake hit in the Bay area. Tweets were coming in right and left long before CNN picked up the story!
It is so fun! You get to meet so many different people from all over the world. You can find a person to chat with about whatever you want!
Twitter is an uncomplicated and user-friendly site that you must check out if haven't already done so. It allows you a number of ways to "cross post", a term that refers to posting a unique status message which gets displayed on various social networking sites (irrespective of their names).
