Got A Stain? Rug Cleaning Equipment

Home Cures for Small Stains
If you have smaller stains you should try using some of the small attachments that come with most steam cleaning devices. These are designed for the sole purpose of spot cleaning and should be used in order to get the maximum effectiveness from your equipment.

Another factor to consider is how recent the stain you are cleaning is. Fresh spills are easiest to clean and should be blotted in order to remove the moisture before anything else is done. The quicker your blot, the less likely your spill will have time to set in. A word of caution however, excessive blotting can actually cause more damage to the fibers of your carpet and rug rather than the deep cleaning benefit most people assume.

You'll be surprised to learn that paper towels, baking powder, rubbing alcohol, vinegar and a spray bottle is all you need to take our some of the more stubborn stains. Just another carpet and rug cleaning tool that can be used to get out those small stains from your carpet and rug.

You can remove most food stains with shaving cream. Just spray it on,wait 15 minutes for it to set in and rinse with a water and vinegar solution.

If you have a red dye stain (as found in popsicles, cat food and drink mixes),use a 30/79 solution of peroxide to water. Its very important to keep in mind however, that peroxide is bleach,so test a small, inconspicuous area of the carpet to test for color fastness. Apply the mixture and wait for 30 minutes, and then remove as much moisture as possible and be sure to rinse with a water and vinegar solution. If the stain is still there, add more peroxide (just a bit) and retreat.

Wax on your carpet can be a challenge. Not impossible, but tough. If you freeze the wax with ice,and chip off what you can with the blunt side of a kitchen knife. Wax will need heat to be removed. However, some newer carpets are very sensitive to heat and will scorch more easily. Test a small part of your carpet first. Set your iron to a low to medium heat setting. The lower the heat, the better the chance of not scorching your carpet. Now use a white paper towel or paper bag with no writing on it (you don't want the dye to transfer from the bag to the carpet). Put the towel down on top of the wax and iron the towel for no longer than 2 seconds. Usually once will do the trick.

You do not need to be intimidated by the task of finding the appropriate carpet and rug cleaning device. Remember that it is only a stain and there is something out there that can properly address and assist in the removal of that stain. Knowing what the stain is,the age of the stain, and the size of the stain can help you narrow down the appropriate equipment quickly in order to address the stain problem as soon as you are made aware of it.
