The rumor has always been, "Is there such a thing as growing back links so quickly that my site will get banned from the search engines?" This is a very common question asked by new bloggers in webmaster forums.
And the reason why they want to know the answer is because they engage themselves heavily in link building techniques such as web directory submissions, paid links, blog commenting and so on. Usually, my response to their question is that as long as they post links on established sites with useful content or applications, they shouldn't worry too much about the search engines. Search engines won't go around penalizing sites that are useful, because the primary purpose of search engines is to help people find the stuff that they want as quickly as possible.
But on the other hand, if inexperienced bloggers start participating in link farms or creating spam pages with little content on them, then perhaps there's a good reason to worry. Search engines do penalize sites that participate in link farms. These sites contain nothing but links. There's little or no useful content, and on some sites, the links are not even organized.
Another way to get a site penalized is to post links on hundreds of similar sites. These sites use the same templates, have the same navigational structure, and have the same pages. The search engines are usually quick to drop these duplicated sites.
In order to prevent their sites from being penalized, many webmasters are careful not to build links too quickly. So there's a growing emphasis for webmasters to learn how to grow links at a natural and consistent pace.
Experienced Internet Marketers have been using article marketing as an effective method to build links at a steady pace. They write and submit between ten to twenty articles each and every week to established article directories. To date, there's not one article marketer that I know of who have complained about his or her sites being penalized by the search engines.
That's because by writing useful articles and submitting them to article directories, they're creating value for their target visitors. People like to read the fresh content that they have written, and learn to trust them over time. These authors have some useful knowledge or experiences to offer, and they are sharing it with everyone else for free on the Internet.
And the search engines love them for doing that. Article marketing activities have created a positive experience for everyone. The Internet has become a better place because of article marketing. Readers get free information, article marketers get a chance to communicate with potential customers, and the article directories get lots of free content. At the end of the day, everyone wins.
Article marketing is growing in popularity every day. Those who are doing it on a consistent basis will be so far ahead of their competitors. Their sites will rank better than others because of all those links, and they'll get the lion share of the market.
