January 2010 - The truth is marketing is the most important aspect of your online business. You can have a great looking website with awesome products to sell but if no one is aware of your website, then your online business will lack the quality traffic it needs to survive and is sure to fail. There are so many articles out there regarding driving traffic to your website that it can be quite overwhelming. This article has outlined the most effective and cost efficient ways of marketing your online business in order to drive the quality traffic that is necessary to make money online.

(Article Marketing)
At the head of the list is writing articles. There are a great many article posting directories out there; enzinearticles.com, freesticky.com, ideamarketers.com and goarticles.com just to name a few and the best thing is a majority of them are free. You write an article on something that has a relation to what you are selling on your site making sure to include a link to your site (people need to know where to go). Make sure to include key words and phrases then post it to all the directories you can. Your article is there to stay it never disappears.

Now people can read your article and go to your site if they so desire. What this does is creates back links to your site and Google loves that. The more back links you can get the better. This aids in boosting your SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and page rank.

If your not a good writer or do not have the time to write an article, you can outsource this task to a freelance writer for a nominal fee.

(Social Media Marketing)
A close second and in my opinion will probably overtake articles is social marketing. Facebook, You Tube and now Twitter are places you want to market your business. It is more personable and you build a relationship with your customers through social interaction and create a following. If they like you and feel they can trust you there is a good chance they will go to your site to see what you have to offer.

(Press Releases)
A press release is the first thing you do when you start up a new site; it is like announcing a grand opening “We are open for business”. Even though it is important and will get you some traffic to your site it is not ranked as high as article writing and social media marketing. A press release is one time; you can write many articles and have continuous contact in the social media. Do not disregard the press release; it is still a good thing to do to make your business visible.

(Opt In Email Marketing)
This form of marketing is good after the online business has customers visiting the site. If you have an opt in email sign in it can be a useful tool for alerting your customers to new products that the business has added to their site. You must also be careful when doing this form of marketing, there are guidelines when doing emails. You do not want to be what is called spamming your customers; this is not a good thing. You do not want to turn them off by sending email after email to them. It is best used judiciously and to inform them when you do have something new to tell them about or a sale that you are offering. You must also include an opt out so if the customer no longer desires to receive emails from your business they can say so and you will have to cease your actions.

This is a summary of the different ways to market your online business. It is recommended that you do more than just one method. The more you do the more visible your business is.
