Firstly, one of the best things about laminate flooring is how hard-wearing it is – it can be walked on by loads of people every day for years, and yet it will just keep on lasting. For this reason, if you have a big family, children, lots of pets, or your floor gets walked on a lot for any other reason, laminate is an option you should strongly consider. Other floors will wear out quickly under these circumstances, and be expensive to replace. Laminate, on the other hand, lasts so long that most manufacturers offer generous guarantees, and will replace it if you somehow do manage to wear it out.
Another situation is if you live in an area where the temperature is very variable – so you have very hot summers and very cold winters, or very hot days and very cold nights. In this situation, many floors will expand and contract constantly, quickly wearing them out. Laminate flooring, however, will not, making it an ideal solution in this situation.
Finally, if you’re about to sell your home, replacing carpets with laminate could be a very good move. Wood flooring is expensive enough that you will rarely make back what you spent on a sale, but laminate is cheap enough and is enough of a perceived improvement that it will often push the value of your house up by as much as five times what it cost you to get the floor installed.
