The shocking result comes in a period when there is a strong civic involvement in a campaign called “Light Up, Shut Up, Belt Up”, which was launched with only a month before and which emphasis the ideas of turning the lights of the bicycles or of the cars during the mornings or evenings as well as the foggy days, wearing always the seat belt and putting down the phone mobile as the driving it is being performed.
Chief Inspector Martin Barnes-Smith, head of Suffolk Constabulary's Roads Policing said: “We issue countless pieces of advice on a range of roads policing issues and yet, amazingly, it would appear that the message is not getting across to everyone. There are still drivers out there who are prepared to take risks with their own lives, the lives of their passengers and other road users every time they get behind the wheel of their vehicle.”
He also added that “The simple fact is this - as long as there are motorists who ignore the law and ignore our advice, people will continue to die and be seriously injured on our county's roads.”
According to the statistics of a survey, made by the University of Sydney, drivers are four times most likely to suffer an accident while using their phone mobiles.
In the case that a motorist is caught talking to the mobile with someone while driving, the penalty given to them is of £30-which is extremely low in comparison with what price he or she could be pay if causing an accident.
Drivers however, risk a penalty which can rise up to a £1,000 fine or they can be even contested at court.
A research made by Budget Van Insurance, also reveals that two out of three motorists have broken the speed limit in the past year.
