Some of the Philadelphia Eagles greatest games
-Eagles vs Giants November 19th, 1978: Miracle at the Meadowlands
The Miracle at the Meadowlands is an event that accured against the New York Giants November 19th, 1978. The Eagles were heavy favorites to win the game. At the end the Giants were winning 17-12. All they had they had to do was run out the clock. The Giants had the ball and the Eagles had no timeouts left. Everyone watching expected quarterback Joe Pisarcik to take the snap and kneel with the ball, running out the clock and holding down a 17-12 Giants upset. Instead, he tried to hand off the ball to fullback Larry Csonka and lost the ball, which allowed Herman Edwards of the Eagles to pick up the ball and run 26 yards untouched for a 19-17 Eagles victory.
-Eagles vs Cowboys January 11th, 1981: The first championship game the Eagles won which got them to the superbowl for the first time.
In this game Philadelphia quarterback Ron Jaworkski wouldn't be the leader of the team only completing 9 of 29 passes for 91 yards. Instead running back Wilbert Montgomery became the leader by rushing for 194 yards and a touchdown. Montogomery got the scoring started early by scoring on the Eagles first drive by rushing 42 yards for an Eagles touchdown. Unfortunetly the Cowboys tied the game in second quarter by running back Tony Dorsett's running in for a short 3 yard touchdown. In the third quarter a fumble was recovered by Eagles defensive end Dennis Harrison on the Dallas 11 yard line. Which set up a 26 yard Eagles field goal by kicker Tony Franklin. On the next Cowboy drive, running back Tony Dorsett fumbled the ball which was recovered by Philadelphia's linebacker Jerry Robinson. Robinson returned the ball to about the Dallas 38 yard line. A short while later, Eagles running back Leroy Harris ran the ball in from 9 yards out giving the Eagles the lead by the score of 17-7. Eagles kicker Tony Franklin added another field goal later on to close out the final score of Eagles 20 Cowboys 7.
In this game the Eagles decided to wear their away white football jerseys instead of their home green football jerseys. Dallas was then forced to wear their darkblue football jerseys. Dallas players have claimed these NFL jerseys are jinxed since they have lost many times wearing them.
-Eagles vs Redskins November 12th 1990: The Body bag game.
Buddy Ryan was quoted 5 days before the game saying " they will get a beating so severe that they will be carted off in body bags," and that's just what happened. On November 12, 1990, during a Monday Night Football game at the Vet, the Eagles annihilated the Washington Redskins by a score of 28-14. The Eagles were set to make the Redskins the same color as their NFL Jerseys, red. The Eagles defense scored three of the teams four touchdowns. This game really did become the "body bad game." The game was more lopsided than the score seemed. The tougher Eagles squad inflicted physical damage on the Redksins all night. The Eagles knocked the starting quarterback of the Redskins out of the game. Then seriously injured his replacement as well. By the end of the game Washington had to revert to using running back Brian Mitchell. At the end the Eagles had injured or hurt a total of 9 Redksins players. All be told, the Redkins did end up with lots of blood on their football Jerseys. The Redskins did get their revenge however when the Washington came back to Veterans Stadium in the first round of the playoffs and defeated the Eagles 20-6.
-Eagles vs Cowboys December 28th 2008: Cowboys demolished
The Eagles were able to run over the Dallas Cowboys 44-6 on December 28, 2008 and advanced to the playoffs. They earned the last NFC wild card berth thanks to sloppy play by Dallas, with five turnovers leading to 24 Eagles points. The Eagles were given a second chance to control their playoff destiny and they took full advantage as their opponent self-destructed. The Eagles went into the game needing an Oakland win at Tampa Bay and a loss by either Chicago or Minnesota in their games. Just before kickoff, the Eagles received good news when they learned that Oakland won and Chicago lost, putting them in a win-and-in situation. The Eagles wore their signature white and green NFL Jerseys for this game. Philadelphia then went out and seized control as Dallas eventually unraveled, committing five turnovers, including four fumbles. Two of the fumbles were returned for touchdowns in the third quarter - one for 73 yards by Chris Clemons and a 96-yarder by Joselio Hanson. The Cowboys, who were (9-7) also had their playoff destiny in their hands and needed only to defeat the Eagles, but instead suffered their ninth consecutive loss in a season finale - and sixth straight to Philadelphia in December.
