To someone who does not know anything about a proxy server, it might seem like something that is unimportant and best left to computer programmers. However, it can actually be used by casual users, and give them greater access to the Web while offering more security.
Surfing with proxies does not require any technical knowledge or know how; just being able to surf the Net is all you really need to be aware of. If you are working in a corporate environment whereby access to the Net is limited only to what the firewall allows you to see, or if you are worried about your personal info being passed around to vendors, or worse, falling into the hands of computer hackers, a proxy server can ease your concern.
The way that the server functions is very simple; it acts like a camouflage; when you open your computer and log on to the Net, the firewall or blocking software will monitor your IP to see where it will head to. By surfing with proxies, you can go around this because instead of your computer, it will be the one that will be logging on to the banned page. Using this technique, you, the user, will not be sensed or detected by the firewall on the network.
Your filtering software will not realize what is going on, because by all accounts, it is the other server (the proxy server in other words) that is going to view the site. However, what is actually happening is that you get to see and access the page by way of this server. You do not have to disable the filtering software, which will be detected; you just run rings around it.
The procedure may seem complex, but the truth is that you do not even need to know how it is done to take advantage of it. You simply have to find this server and once you connect to it, you can start browsing away. And because it deletes any information about your personal computer and any other info, you are safe from any would be spammers too.
There are also software available concerning proxy servers that allow you to tweak and adjust many other network settings, including establishing your own server. However, for the most part that is not even necessary; with these utilities, going around any attempts to block your favorite sites will be a breeze.
