The Benefits of a Quality CMS

All website owners would like to be able to edit their own website this is where the content management system or CMS comes in. The aim at this article is to look at the benefits of having a quality CMS.

For those of you who don’t know, a content management system is a web application that allows you to edit the content on your website which includes text, images and links. Below is a list of benefits of having a CMS:

1. You Don’t Need to Know How to Programme

The best thing about a CMS is that you will be able to change the content of your website through and easy to use interface. Usually it will be very simple, like using word, giving you buttons to add links and make text bold for example. This means you need to know absolutely nothing about HTML to be able to change your content, meaning anyone can do it.

2. You can update you website wherever you are

All you need to be able to edit your website is an internet connection. When you are online you will be able to access you CMS and update your content at the click of a button. This means you don’t have to worry if things change while you are away from your office you will be able to update your website and let your customers know.

3. You save money and time

If you don’t have a CMS you probably need to go to your web developer to change your content. This means you will need to pay them and wait for when they have time to change it. This could cost you a lot over time and mean your content is never really up to date. With a CMS you have instant control meaning your website is always current and for no cost.

4. You can’t overwrite important website files

If you are changing your site without a CMS there is always a chance that you delete or overwrite files that are important to the structure of your website. With a CMS this is impossible as you will only have access to edit the content meaning you only change what you want to change.

5. On page SEO is made easier

With most content management systems you will find they generate SEO friendly urls which saves you some time. In addition you will also be able to edit all the tags on your website including the title and description. This means it is much easier to ensure your web page is optimised for the search engines which in the long run will save you time and effort.

You should find that most web developers will offer you some form of CMS whether this be open source or custom built. There are pros and cons of both types however we would recommend the custom built type. The reason for this is that with a custom built system you get exactly what you want and don’t have complicated features that you don’t need.

If you don’t have a CMS for your website at the moment we would recommend discussing with your web developer to find you how they can help as once you have a content management system in place you will never look back.
