The Cure will release new singles every month

English alt-rock band The Cure has announced plans to release a new single on the 13th day of every month until the release of the band’s 13th studio album in September 2008. The first single from the untitled album, "The Only One" will be released May 13. "The Only One" includes the b-side "NY Trip." June 13’s single is "Freashow," with the b-side "All Kinds of Stuff."

The Cure formed in Sussex, England in 1976. The band’s only constant member is the iconic Robert Smith. The Cure’s popularity skyrocketed in the 1980s and early 1990s with pop singles like "Lovesong" and "Friday I’m in Love."

The Cure’s upcoming album, to be released by label Geffen Records, is said by Robert Smith to be a double album, mixed by him and others. "What will probably happen is that a double album will come out like a limited edition, mixed by me, a single-disc version...primarily chosen by the label might get mixed by someone else in order to have a different thing," says Smith. The as of now untitled album is rumored to be named 4:13, a title printed in tour booklets that alludes to the fact that the band is a quartet for the first time since the 1990s and it is the band’s 13th album.

The Cure is currently on tour in the US.
