Though not as popular as card games and slots, craps can be very exciting in its own right. It is also very interesting due to the probabilities involved in the game. Online versions of craps have also begun to increase in numbers, showing its growing popularity.
In the game, players take turns in rolling two dice, with all the other players betting on the possible outcomes of the throws. The privilege to be the “shooter” and roll the dice is then passed on to clockwise to other players during each new round.
The most exciting (and perhaps, the noisiest) aspect of the game is the betting itself. This is where odds calculations become very useful. Player strategy will also depend on the type of wager he is going to make.
Pass line bets are the most common wagers that players make. The wager is won by the bettor when the roll produces either a seven or eleven. The player losses (or “craps”) when the roll turns out as a 2,3 or 12. If the roll turns out any other number, the player can only wait and hope that the next few rolls produces the same number for him to win the bet. He needs only two such rolls to win, but if the throw produces a seven before the second number, he automatically losses the bet.
The player also have a choice to bet on the opposite of the pass line bet, called the don't pass line bet, not surprisingly. The don't pass line bet automatically losses when the roll is either a seven or an eleven and wins with either a 2 or a 3. Getting a 12 in the roll means a draw and he player doesn't get or lose anything. All the other possibilities are exactly the reverse of that of the pass line bet.
Players still have an option when the throw rolls out any numbers other than 2,3,7 and 11. The pass odd bet can increase a player's winning if he makes a point and the point is re-rolled before a seven. The player can wager up to five times (in some extreme casinos, up to a hundred times) the initial amount he placed in the pass line bet. Like many of the bets in craps, the pass odd bet also has its twin in the form of the don't pass odd bet (again aptly named), which is the reverse of the pass odd bet.
There are still other bets in craps that the player can use. These bets, such as the come and multi roll bets, will come in especially handy in the different forms the game can take.
