The Heart Monitor Watch - Know Your Heart Zones

We are hearing a lot about people using heart monitors during fitness training. It appears you cannot do an effective work out without being bleeped at by a heart monitor watch throughout the session. There are several different zones that your heart performs in, but what are they?

The first zone that your heart is in is called the Aerobic Zone.

This is the next zone up from your natural resting heart rate. This is the zone that you will start off in. You will need to develop how you perform in this zone before you can move on to the next.
The Anaerobic Zone

When your heart enters this zone, something different happens and your body begins to use up the lactic acid that is stored in the muscles of your body.

The Red Line Zone

Many of us will never get our heartbeat to this zone. This zone is usually reserved for the extremely fit amongst us, this zone is only usually entered for very short periods, like for example in competitive race conditions.

Some other things that can affect your heartbeat are:

If you are dehydrated, your heart may be put under up to 7% more pressure to perform.

Humid and hot conditions, as well as heigth and altitude, can stress your heart by as much as 20%.
