The Infrared Heating System and Home Heating

A infrared heating system is one of the most advanced home heating system. It is practically a paradigm shift. Conventional methods of heating the home has always been revolving around how to heat up the air. But for infrared heating, the entire heating process has got nothing to do with air. Surprised? Here is how infrared heating works.

When we say conventional heating systems, we are referring to water or steam heating systems. Both systems attempt to heat up the room through convection - or passing heat through air. The entire home is thus warmed up as the air temperature rises. But the problem with such systems is that there is a lot of energy wastage. This is due to the fact that heating up the home is only possible through conduction of heat through air.

However, infrared heating systems have no need for air. These systems operate in electromagnetic waves. The heat is generated only when the waves are absorbed by a surface such as the human body. In other words, the heat don't travel through air. It is directly absorbed by dense surfaces. For this reason, you can expect the infrared heating systems to heat up floors, furnitures, human beings, etc. but the room temperature remains largely unchanged. So what's so great about the technology?

You see, this essentially means that there is very little energy wastage. The efficiency of the heating system depends very much on the materials that are used as the heat sources. Using reflectors that are at ground level, radiation is directed to areas where it is needed. This leads to greater energy savings.

In addition, the entire infrared heating system is very simple and straightforward. It is a low maintenance system, and the only components you have to take care of are the heat sources and the reflectors. Reflectors can be maintained with regular cleaning, and heat source materials may need to be replaced. There are no dirty pipes to clean, no valves, no gauges or other complicated devices to worry about.

To further ensure that there is no energy loss, radiation can be constrained to various pre-specified zones. For zones that do not need heating, radiation need not be transmitted. Also, you have full control over the capacity of the heating system. This means that just like all other heating system, you can control the level of radiation you wish to release in the zones. This will ensure maximum comfort for the people in the rooms.

Those who do not understand how infrared system works often expect to experience the same effects as other heating systems. But they may be surprised at how fast infrared heating systems can bring heat to their bodies. That is because since the electromagnetic waves don't travel through air, the bodies absorb the radiation directly. This means that the body warms up without having to wait for the entire room to warm up.
