Although Western cultures preach the worth of individuality, this quickly becomes subsumed into groups of young folk all dressing the same, using the same slang, and listening to the same music.
The ancient teaching for dealing with bullies used to be to simply strike back at them. Because they are mostly cowards, they tend not to take that reaction very well and leave their prey alone. Sadly, in a society that is stratified along the lines of power relationships, bullying - or at minimum certain degrees of it - exists in almost every demesne of life.
