People don't think that they will ever lose their sense of hearing. Sadly, some people will lose their sense of hearing whether they want to or not. No matter how likely or not likely you are in getting hearing disorders, it is important to know the causes first then see how it can be treated.
Hearing loss is a very big deal as it is the most common birth defect among babies. Both children and adults of all ages can get hearing disorders. Just because a person is born normal, he or she can still get it from sustaining head injuries or a person's genetics.
A person who is subjected to loud environmental noises day in and day out is likely to lose their sense of hearing. A person whose house is near an airport is subjected to regularly loud noise that is damaging to the person's ears. Things like the use of guns, tools that emit very loud noises even if just for a burst of time are dangerous too.
Physicians and specialists will often times give hearing aids to a patient suffering from hearing impairment. Determining what type of hearing aid may be a little complicated as there are many different types available. Any kind of hearing aid will basically still just gather and magnify surrounding sound to the user.
A hearing aid is usually categorized by where the electro acoustic apparatus is worn. Behind the ear aids are called BTE and these types are simply made up of a case, tube and ear molds and are placed behind the ear. While some hearing aids can be damaged by moisture and earwax, BTE aids cannot as it is placed outside the ear and only the ear mold is at risk.
Aside from the BTE, there is a new medical breakthrough called cochlear implants which is simply a device made to replace your cochlear. The cochlear implant needs to be surgically implanted in a person, behind the targeted ear and just underneath the scalp. This inner working of this device basically collects, converts and transmits sounds from the surrounding into our brain through electrodes.
A tiny cochlear implant has many parts, some of which are the microphone, the speech processor, the transmitter, the converter and the electrodes. The costs to getting one of these implants are off the roof and the only way to get one is in a developed country. Aside from the price, there is still the question of compatibility as certain qualifications need to be met in regards to health status, and history of hearing problems.
Doctor's are also excited by a new form of technology called gene therapy. A person with damaged cochlea cells, may simply opt to have new cochlea cells grown from scratch. There is nothing definite yet with gene therapy, and the only thing a person can do is hope for the future.
Hearing treatments like the ones mentioned above gives a person a chance for a life of normalcy. There are many types of hearing treatments available, and the only way to find out which one is for you is to find a doctor. Don't wait until your hearing is gone.
