How often do you get a chance to change your life? If the answer to that question is always, then you're probably doing something right. If, on the other hand, you don't feel like you have much of a say in what happens to you, then it is time you stepped up and took control of the wheel. After all, this is your life, so why don't you drive the metaphorical car? Ok, so you've seen much the same message in any number of self help books. Well, it just so happens that those books, and their authors, are right. You are in control, and the only thing holding you back? Well, it's not anybody else's fault if you haven't accepted responsibility for your own behaviors and actions.
Are there elements of your life that are completely out of your control? Of course there are. However, you always have a say in how you react and respond to anything that comes from outside of you. In fact, you can go even further and say that you can be in control of what comes from inside of you. If you are guilty of negative self-talk, you can change that pattern on your own. After all, habits and patterns are all we're dealing with here. If, instead of thinking to yourself "I'm a fat lazy slob and I just can't seem to change," you were to think "I am actively losing weight at a healthy rate and utilizing motivational tools" you might just experience things a little differently.
How do you get from one behavior pattern to another? Using the tools available to you is one way to begin turning things around.
