Victory over Washington Redskins - Former 49ers Cornerback Erick Davis wraps it up!

What a fantastic way to end the season! The team’s final game of the season was played very well. When you think of the team’s progress you agree that things are moving forward on the right track.

The way the team played, will make you content that they played like a well prepared team with a great zeal to win and make their dominance felt all out on the field.

Going into the game, the 49ers knew that they had to make this team invincible in all dimensional, the only way to do this was to ensure that Clinton Portis was off the game and that Jason Campbell was in control. Even though things weren’t working on their way earlier in the first half, they really never panicked, but they recorrected and regrouped later in halftime.

Their ability to read the game and make adjustment was a major good sign that they were able to implement those changes in the second half and fight to the end. They were able to push and get the ball deep into the offense side more often. This strong and fighting spirit made the 49ers’ offensively score some points, controlled the game throughout the second half, and eventually won the game.

Parys Haralson was one player who actually gave the visitors a good pressure. Though earlier in the game he was below par, but as the game progressed he rediscovered his form and had a very good day pressuring the quarterback making him more uncomfortable. The other outstanding player was Justin Smith; he did manage rushing the passer.

The defense kept the ever athletic quarterback of the Redskins at bay. Their performance was pretty good as they throughout contained him.

The visitors’ receivers were also kept as spectators much in the game. The chief executioner behind this was Walt Harris. He played extremely well and is the guy who I would single out in the secondary. Having played with them in Washington, he therefore knew their movement and his good timing of events paid off for him. Walt Harris was always right where he was supposed to be throughout the game. He was able to break up passes and prevent the visitors’ offense from moving from the start to the end of the game.

Offensively, Frank Gore did an excellent job. He was able to cross the 1,000-yard mark three years in a row. Making such runs is quite exceptional, basing on the past history of other running backs who have played for 49ers. It’s quite an amazing feat; to be a legend and be the first to accomplish something new with the 49ers is something special. Frank Gore is a phenomenal player and gets better and better as he progresses, thanks to his drive and determination to excel.

Frank Gore’s record is not a one man achievement but something to be shared among the offensive line as well because a player like Eric Heitmann has been the man behind the blocking for all three years for him. The new player, Erick Davis though a former 49ers cornerback wrapped up the victory to the delight of the funs and supporters.
