What Foods To Eat During Pregnancy

There is no question about it that you know how important it is to consume fruits and veggies in your diet. Unlike other foods, with fruits and vegetables, more is healthier! Even the government recommends that you consume at least five portions of fruits and vegetables everyday.

But it is the rare person that actually follows these guidelines and that gets the recommended quantities of these nutrients in fruits and vegetables. It seems unfair but by practicing this you may actually make your diet better and reach your goal faster than you think.

What are the health benefits of consuming more fruits and vegetables? It has been shown and proven by scientists and physicians several times that this is the best way to increase your fitness and your nutrition level.

Several people for many years now have believed that to prevent some diseases, such as strokes, premature again, heart disease, heart attack, and cancer, consuming a large amount of fruits and veggies is important. 35% of cancers nowadays have been caused or triggered by a poor diet and not having enough fruits and veggies.

While fruits and veggies can help your health, there is much more to them than that. There are so many different types of fruits, different taste, size, and texture, and they are so delicious. You might be picky but there are so many different kinds of fruits that you are obligated to like some!

These fruits and veggies are very nutritious, containing several vitamins such as vitamin A, C, and E. Most consider that antioxidants protect the body from many different harmful elements including contamination in the environment, damaging rays from the sun, and so on.

Other nutrients such as beta carotene can be acquired from yellow and orange fruits and vegetables. Some that are particularly rich in beta carotene would include carrots, peaches, pumpkins, squash, and so on.

And look at the benefits of fruits and veggies for unborn babies. Women who are considering getting pregnant or who may get pregnant should definitely ingest fruits and veggies, especially those that comprise of folic acid. Folic acid is known to stop any birth faults to happen. Defects such as spina bifida and others. Of course unborn babies get their nourishment from a mother's body so she needs to ingest enough nutrition and healthy elements in her body even before she gets pregnant. Choose items like broccoli, spinach, and Brussels sprouts for folic acid.

Other than the vitamins and minerals already presented, there are many more nutrients that you may obtain from fruits and vegetables. Fiber would be a good example. You must have enough fiber in your system to fight off heart disease and cancer, and to help your digestive system as well.

Another advantage to consuming fruits and vegetables is that they are low in calories, especially when compared to the amount of nutrition you get for those calories. Today's supermarkets are saturated with foods that are high in fat and low in nutrition, except for the produce sections! And remember that fruits and veggies have no cholesterol and also contain no fat!

So perhaps you now understand why fruits and vegetables are so important to your diet in order for it to be balanced and healthy. Compared to fat foods fruits and vegetables are less expensive! You can also choose locally grown items for even more value and of course it helps to keep an eye on sales at your supermarket as well.

Buying them locally will have more of a fresh taste. There is an endless variety from which to choose, and this means you'll never get bored with your healthy diet and won't be tempted to abandon it either!
