What Is the Sacred art Of Meditation?

In the modern world life has become very fast. This hectic race is the child of intense competition which has snatched the peace and tranquility from the life of human beings and has filled it with tension. Man is encompassed from all sides with the worries about his work, family status and other social issues. This tension and worry has developed due to man’s unlimited desire of achieving material prosperity. What is the final outcome? The overall result is ill health, sorrow and the feeling of insecurity thus increasing the mental burden as all the hard work could not provide him any type of respite in the end.

What is meditation?

Meditation is a spiritual means of attaining peace and tranquility of the body and the mind. It is the best method of discarding all the toxic elements from the body and energizing the mind and the body without suffering the side affects of the tablets and other medicines that the doctor prescribes. It is a process by which the full working system of the body is cleansed. The agitation of the mind is controlled through concentration. The concentration process involves the act of focusing on an object or medium and then slowly filling the mind with one thought to bring in peace and drive away all the erratic thoughts.

The second step is meditation where the mind is totally concentrated on one object and everything else loses its importance which means the mind has developed the capability to control its thought process and give it a fixed direction. During meditation a person becomes oblivion to his surrounding and sees only one thing and that is the medium on which he is focusing his thoughts. The medium can be anything that is it can be repeating lines from the Holy Scriptures to concentrating on any thought or object,

The third stage is the contemplation stage where the mind is filled with the thought of the object and all other issues or worries take the back seat. This relaxes the mind and gives the feeling of being one with the universe. Meditation can also be done by practicing yoga and pranayam. In meditation the postures can be different. Some people can meditate while they are walking whereas some sit at one place with their eyes closed.

How does meditation help us?

Meditation helps by controlling the erratic thought processes and diverting it towards a constructive direction thus providing peace and tranquility to the mind. Yoga helps by relaxing the body; the purgation of the toxic elements from the body helps it to regain its vitality and flexibility to live a healthy and disease free life. Meditation has been accepted as the best means to live a healthy life by all the people of the world no matter to which religion they belong.
