The survey, conducted by Harris Interactive, for Sally Beauty Supply, asked people to cast a vote on best and worst Hollywood hairstyles from the past year.
Though Americans adored Eva Longoria and George Clooney for their good taste, they may be more attentive in watching the red carpets for celebrities such as Britney Spears and her ex, Kevin Federline. The survey notes these stars had more than one bad hair day.
Americans and Their Hair
Survey participants were also asked about their own styling:
• 26 percent of adults change their hairstyle once a year or more.
• Adults, when styling their hair, name styling gel and hairspray as their top two necessities.
• 19 percent of adults visit a hair salon every four to five weeks.
• Aside from a trim or consultation, color is the most-used service, with 16 percent.
A Look Back
At the first Best Tressed survey 13 years ago, voters envied such celebrities as Sharon Stone, Heather Locklear and John Travolta for their lovely locks.
The current female winner for best hair, Eva Longoria, advanced from third to first this year, while the very McDreamy Patrick Dempsey made his first appearance on the list. Britney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith kept their status as owners of some of the worst hairstyles in Hollywood.
The survey was commissioned by the largest purveyor of professional beauty supplies in the world, Sally Beauty, with over 2,200 stores that offer the salon professional and the consumer over 5,000 salon-quality products for hair, nail and skin care.
