Who's fearful of The Dark Knight

With the long running history of Batman comes a very sizeable number of villains that have become a part of Gotham City's serious problems. Making a comprehensive list of them along with their details and secret agendas would be more fitting as a book or novel so, how about taking a brief look at some of the most recognized and treacherous characters in The Dark Knights Universe.

The Joker is obviously our first villain to talk about. Out of each and every one of the characters to create misery for The Dark Knight he must take first place. The Joker, name aside, is not to be taken lightly. He is a commendable enemy of Batman and is particularly irregular and dangerous. He was played by Jack Nicholson in the 1989 Batman, Nicholsons presentation was said to be Oscar worthy. Later on in the most recent Batman motion picture actor Heath Ledger gave the Joker another shot and gave fans and many critics the idea that his performance in The Dark Knight was even Better than Jacks.

Then up is The Penguin, given his name because of his look and its similarity to that frozen bird that can not fly. With his elongated, beak-like nose and short corpse he is a very revolting person. He is, on the other hand, a very sharp man. Penguin pictures himself as a 'higher being' on the other hand he is also an outcast. In the sixties Batman series he was portrayed by Burgess Meredith but of the actors that have played the role Danny DeVito got it down to a tee in 1992's Batman Returns. While we are on the subject of that picture there is also Catwoman to talk about. Who could forget Michelle Pfeiffer's portrayal of the Catwoman? Celina had already been well twenty five years previous by Eartha kitt. The holder of the title to the greatest catwoman is still debatable

Another great rival to Batman is the Riddler. Between 1967 and 1968 all through the Batman series the character was played by both Frank Gorshin and John Astin. In 1995 Jim Carrey became The Riddler for Batman Forever. The Riddler, as his name suggests, is obsessed with riddles. He frequently sends convoluted clues to both Batman and the police force before committing a crime. The Riddler is often dressed in a green outfit with a domino mask. Echo and Query are two of The Riddlers partners in crime.

Finally comes Mr. Freeze, last but not least. He first appeared in Detective Comics as Mr. Zero and wasn't a particularly dangerous character. Later on, after the series in the sixties he became known as Mr. Freeze, a completely different and more dangerous persona. He is a mad scientist who just so happens to have a great understanding of cryonics. To survive anywhere except for a particular refrigeration unit, Mister Freeze is forced to dress in a special suit to keep him sufficiently cold. With this suit he has outrageous enhanced power and is able to harness the cold to use as a weapon. In Batman and Robin, Freeze was played by Arnold Schwarzenegger.

To recap, you can easily see why Batman has such a tough job. Remember these are just some of the villains he deals with.
