The South Central parts of Hays County are an integral part of the Austin Metro environment. The communities of Wimberley, Woodcreek, Dripping Springs, Driftwood, in the western portion tucked away in the beautiful Hill Country. Or situated along the I-35 corridor, you will find the booming cities of Kyle, Buda and Mountain City. All of these towns have a distinct identity and personality that is at the heart of what makes all of these communities a vital part of the Austin area.
The area around Wimberley, including Woodcreek offers you a chance at some of the most magnificent home sites and views of the Hill Country that you will find anywhere. Crystal clear waters of the Blanco River and Cypress Creek offer nature at its best. Although a sizeable community Wimberley only recently incorporated. Students attend Wimberley ISD, consisting of four schools. Wimberley has gained notoriety over the years because of the Market Days. The first Saturday of the month (April thru December) thousands of tourist from all over the state arrive to shop and visit the open air booths, over 400, looking for art, specialty items, antiques, and other treasures. Along with art and specialty shops, there medical offices and other businesses needed for residents in the area. Wimberley ideally situated for travel from Austin or San Antonio. To the residents living in this area of Hays County, the serenity and beauty of the area cannot be surpassed.
Dripping Springs and Driftwood are also communities in Hays County, a little farther to the northwest of Wimberley. Situated closer to Austin many area residents will brave the commute to town for employment and other social amenities so they may enjoy their little piece of heaven located out of the hustle and bustle of city life.
Considered by many to be “The Gateway to the Hill Country” Dripping Springs is a community that is maintaining its down home hospitality and charm while attracting businesses and residents who want to enjoy the beautiful serenity of the hill country without the hectic pace of city living. Driftwood is also a growing, but the growth is a little quieter. Driftwood is known for the location of The Salt Lick Restaurant which is famous for the beauty of its location and of course Bar-B-Que, Served Family Style. A popular destination at Driftwood is also Camp Ben McCullough, a private park known for its beautiful camping facilities and the annual Camp Ben Reunion. This is reunion is decades old, last eight days and offers camping, swimming, food, a carnival and of course music and dancing.
All three of these communities and the surrounding areas offer residents and visitors alike a taste of what Central Texas is all about, family, friends, food, fun and especially hospitality. Beautiful landscapes with views of the Hill Country or picturesque creeks and rivers, there is room to grow and room to enjoy, without spoiling the environment or the losing the friendliness and openness that makes you want to come home.
