Owning your own vehicle is a great feeling of freedom. Vehicle ownership is also a great deal of responsibility. Nothing quite compares to the elation experienced when the car salesperson hands over the keys and you get to drive off of the dealer’s lot with a brand new vehicle. No matter what time of year it may be, but particularly in the summertime, there’s nothing like riding down the road in your new car and enjoying the looks and stares from people noticing your vehicle.
With a new vehicle, fortunately everything is nice and in good working condition. As time goes by however, a part of the responsibility of owning a vehicle is that you have to have your vehicle serviced to ensure that many parts are in working order. Every 3,000 miles that you drive, you should be getting an oil change and having other fluids check. Other routine maintenance includes changing the spark plugs, air filters, checking the battery, replacing the windshield wiper blades when they are getting old and making sure that your brake pads are not worn down.
Worn brake pads can spell some serious trouble for you when it comes to driving your vehicle and expecting it to stop when you need it to. Fortunately, it is not difficult to replace your brake pads if they are worn. There are many brake shops or the dealer where you purchased a new vehicle will most likely have mechanics on duty who can replace worn brake pads. Although many people argue that taking your vehicle to the dealer is the most expensive way to replace worn brake pads, there are some valid reasons to consider the dealer.
The most valid reason is because the dealer is using brake pads made by the manufacturer of the vehicle, not generic parts. The dealer’s labor charge is undoubtedly going to be higher but there is also typically a lengthier warranty on all brembo brakes so that if the pads do wear down or fail to function properly during the warranty period, the dealer will replace the pads at no additional charge to you.
It should not be misconstrued that the dealer is the only place to get quality brake pads because there are many reputable brake shops that can fix your entire brake system. The advantage that brake shops have over some dealers is that the professionals at brake shops replace brake pads and brake systems all day long. This makes them experts at the work that they do and it is very likely that because their shops specialize in brake work and not general mechanic work that you can have an expert do the job in less time than what the dealer can provide.
Allowing your brake pads to become worn beyond their usefulness can spell the kind of trouble that causes major accidents for people, many of which can and do result in fatalities. With so many brake shops and dealers who provide their services for a fee, there’s no reason to allow worn brake pads to cause you to have an accident that may harm you and others.
