Betty Crocker is an icon that many of us have grown up with through the years. Betty Crocker is synonymous with cookbooks and cake mixes. I can still remember seeing the picture of good old Betty on the box of those delicious cake mixes.
The name Betty Crocker has historical significance as well. The name “Betty Crocker” was developed to market products to homemakers, and created from combining the last name of a retired company executive, William Crocker, and a pleasant, comfortable female name, Betty. I can assure you that the name was not borrow from the Flintstones. According to an online source, General Mills became inundated with requests for recipes and baking suggestions, and to make the responses more personal, the company responded with letters using the signature of a secretary who won an office contest. That really made Betty Crocker come alive and women all over America suddenly felt as if a kindred spirit. This was in 1921 and this same signature is still used today. There is almost something comforting about that, although I'm not really sure why I feel that way. - Tips For Using A Charcoal Grill By : Morgan Hamilton

When it comes to finding protein sources that do not contain the cholesterol and fat content found in meat products, people are beginning to rediscover tofu. And as a way to integrate tofu into every day life, people continue to add each tofu recipe that they find into their stockpile of delicious dishes.
Tofu is a soybean based product made from curds that are pressed into useable blocks that can be used in a tofu recipe. Soft tofu, derived directly from soy milk, is extremely moist; because of its similarity to custard, it is often used as an ingredient in a tofu recipe for dessert. Firm tofu, that contains less moisture, holds its shape and is conducive to a main dish tofu recipe. Dried tofu has the lowest moisture content and is most like meat in its texture. When used in a tofu recipe, dried tofu is often crumbled, sliced, or pressed into noodles. Tofu has very little natural flavor; the reason people enjoy it is because the tofu found in a tofu recipe actually absorbs the flavors of the other ingredients in the dish. - Learning How To Cook Tofu By : Michelle Bery -

With the advent of the cell phone came a revolutionary way for us to communicate. No longer were we confined to homes to make or receive a phone call. Now, with a phone in our pocket, we were able to communicate on the go; the cell phone took our lifestyle into account and gave us the mobility we so desperately needed.
As with many modern inventions, no one really took notice of the cell phone until it was streamlined and affordable for the masses. But the cell phone really had its beginnings in the early 1970s, as researchers searched for a way to make the mobile car phone a more effective and efficient unit. At that time, they felt that by limiting the service area of the mobile phone to a small group of “cells” they could improve the effectiveness and clarity of the phone. - Finding The Most Affordable Cellular Phone By : Michelle Bery -

The cuisine of the Western region of China is well-known for its spiciness, but many Western palates overlook the complex interplay of savory, sour, hot and sweet flavors that underlie the fiery spice of the Szechwan pepper and other spices that give the Szechwan cuisine its characteristic burn.
For decades, most of the world was familiar mainly with Cantonese cuisine, and thought of it as ‘Chinese cuisine’. In reality, though, China is an enormous country that encompasses nearly every kind of climate imaginable. The amazing variety of foods, spices and climates have led to many distinct styles of Chinese cuisine. Szechwan cuisine, originating in a steamy, sub-tropical climate, includes smoked, pickled and spiced foods, as well as foods spiced with a heavy hand for both preservation and flavor. - Regional Cuisine – Down Home Southern Cooking By : Kirsten Hawkins
I grew up in New England, the home of ‘plain cooking’, where corn on the cob is served as is with a slab of butter and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. We boil salted meats with vegetables and call it – well, a boiled dinner. Our clam chowder is white, our baked beans have bacon and molasses in them, and no one in the world has ever invented a food that was improved by the addition of curry. By the time I was eighteen, I could boil a lobster, steam clams and grill a pork chop to perfection. Then I moved to Virginia, picked up a roommate from North Carolina – and discovered a whole new world of down home country cooking goodness.
To an All-American Italian girl from Boston, the menus in restaurants were in a foreign language. Chicken-fried steak, grits, corn pone pudding, strawberry rhubarb pie – sweet potato pie?? In my mind, chicken and steak were two different meats, grits is what’s on sandpaper, corn is a vegetable – and what in the world is sweet potato doing in a crust? But I became a fervent convert to Southern cooking the first time my roommate made up a pan of the sweetest, tastiest, most perfectly melt-in-your-mouth delicious Southern baking powder biscuits and topped them with sausage gravy. From that day on, I was Sue’s disciple, standing at her elbow as she diced scallions to make up a mess of pinto beans, stirred the milk into a pan of drippings for milk gravy and rolled thin steak strips in chicken batter to make chicken-fried steak. - Cooking With A Stainless Steel Barbeque Grill By : annmarier (author)

When was the last time you had a good barbecue? Here are some things to remember to help you come up with the perfect barbecue.
The choice of wood that you use can have some bearing on how your barbecue comes out as these impart different flavours to the meat. (Yes, unfortunately, your neighbors' complaint that their food has a taste of wood in it actually does have some basis.) In addition, some types of wood burn faster than others. Many suggest that the best way to barbecue is to use a combination of wood and charcoal to optimize smoke flavour and consistent burning. (Let's see what your neighbors can say about that one.) - The Barbecue Experience By : Kadence Buchanan -
If you read the title and immediately opened the file thinking that this cooking method was included in the outdoor activities section by mistake, don't be surprised if we tell you that preparing your Sunday's barbecue festivity is actually a great outdoor activity!
Part of the U.S. outdoor living for decades, barbecue (also known as barbeque, Barbie, or abbreviated BBQ) has evolved from a method of cooking food, most frequently meat, to a social gathering and a great opportunity to exercise a variety of outdoor activities. If you have been present, even once to an outdoor barbecue extravaganza, you are familiar with the scenes. Kids running around, men over the heat and the hot gases of a fire, smoking food served on plastic plates, hot coals of charcoal ready to spread the scent of cooked food around, women preparing the dinner table and running back and forth to the kitchen or utensils area, people discussing, laughing, relaxing. What more could one ask for? Probably nothing, but the fact still remains that when people are asked to state their favorite outdoor activity, they seem reluctant to say "barbecue" since it is actually based on food preparation and does not necessarily involve any type of exercise. Well, one stop feeling guilty of barbecue. Especially if you come from the Southern or Midwest U.S. States, you should be proud of participating in one of the most important social outdoor activities of our time. - Cooking Tips When Out Camping By : Kadence Buchanan -
While we were kids, my brother and I, had the opportunity of traveling around the countryside with our father and explore everything our home country had to offer to the three musketeers, which was our code name. Unfortunately, in most of these trips our mother was left behind as she had to work and we were given the chance to spend time with our father who as a nature lover took as almost anywhere our car and feet could lead us. These trips were our time together with our beloved father, who while we were young did everything in his power to spend as much time with us as possible. If time was not the issue back then, we tried to keep the budget under logical limits, so all these trips were made with our car that was carrying on its roof our specially designed and hand-made (by my father) tend.
During those camping times and since our mother was not near by to feed us, our father was apart from the designated driver and the leader of our group, also the cook that served us some of the best meals we have ever tasted; probably because we were really hungry by the time we eat. The truth is that I still remember the taste of his pasta and if I could go back in time, I would love to experience again the thrill of singing with my brother while our dad was smiling cooking his amazing pasta on our carry on kitchen supplies. - Japanese Cooking By : Jonathon Hardcastle -
Do you love Japanese food? The funny thing about Japanese food is that you either love it or you hate it. There is no in-between. And chances are, if you hate it, you probably haven’t really tasted Japanese food yet or haven’t given yourself a chance to sample it enough. Japanese food is hard to appreciate after only one bite. And sometimes, the idea that you are tasting raw food just won’t escape your mind that you are already predisposed to hating Japanese food even before you actually taste it.
Personally, I love Japanese food. There really is no other cuisine like it in the world in terms of its unique taste and presentation. Who would believe that something so raw could be so delicious? For those of you who have not yet discovered the pleasures of Japanese food, allow me to present the following primer. - Cooking With Children By : Jonathon Hardcastle -
Next Sunday morning, surprise your angels by inviting them to the kitchen and join them in creating their own breakfast. Instead of having kids run down the stairs screaming over a toy, let them invest some of that energy and creativity into a new experience they will love repeating every week with you at their side. Cooking with children can be an instructive and amazing process of observing them as they become responsible and able to organize not only the food ingredients, but most importantly their own minds.
Do not let the fear of them being hurt or injured stop you from letting your children bond with each other as well as with you. Cooking preparation can bring families together in a whole new sense. Giving in to some of their demands, while teaching them how to use the available resources, can be a unique experience for everyone involved. Under your guidance and support, kids can learn how to handle eggs, mix butter with sugar, open up a milk bottle, or place the prepared food into the right size of containers. Cooking can become a new tool for you to transfer the knowledge you want and have fun in the meanwhile. - A Mothers Treasure By : Jonathon Hardcastle -
Every mother has her own culinary treasures. They are called recipes. If you frequently have those late night cravings for your mother's mini apple pies or unique kind of chocolate-chip cookies, now that you do not live at your parent's house anymore, perhaps it is time to give in to her advice and spend some quality time with her in the kitchen. By helping her create your favorite meal or dessert, you will gain much more than copying her cooking instructions. You will actually advance your cooking skills and bond with her.
This is not an easy deal and you know it. Most likely, you will have to hear that old same story that she has no idea where she has put that piece of paper containing all the "secret" ingredients and measurements for the specific recipe-it is likely that it did not ever existed. But, if you sound serious, she will probably ask you to join her next time she is about to create that tasteful delight of your choice, so you can take a peek or two during the cooking preparation process. Do not miss that kind of once-in-a-lifetime offer. These are your cravings we are talking about, you certainly cannot treat them with disrespect; they will hunt you down late at night until you say "Enough is enough!" - Russian Thanksgiving Dinner – Mystery Ingredients By : Nomad Rick

The Set Up - Kitchenaid, A Name You Can Trust In Kitchen Appliances By : Abigail Franks
In my younger days, I must admit that the thought of paying several hundred dollars for a kitchen appliance like a KitchAid stand Mixer was not only not in my budget but also something not to mention I couldn't justify the expense. It's been a few years now and several mixers later when I realized that quality matters.
Like many people just starting out, I was interested only in 1 thing and that was price. How could I mix up my occasional birthday cake without costing my anything. I could mix by hand but as anyone who has ever known 20 something, there's a limit to the amount of actual effort we want to do before we justify going out and buying something. So during the first few years of independent life, the 25 dollar hand or portable mixers were my preferred kitchen mixing appliance - Alabama Cooking Schools Offer Classes For The Rest Of Us By : Andy West

I love entertaining people in my home. Nothing excites me more than opening my doors and allowing others to enter my small world. Most people don’t even think about it or read the ingredients, and sadly, some people don’t even care. As long as they’re able to quickly get cakes for special occasions, they could care less. Bakeries often use trans fatty acids in place of butter, in ‘butter’ cream frosting. This is totally ridiculous!
