  • "Noodling": Cooking Pasta or Catching Catfish?  By : Jeanie Smith
"Noodling" conjures up images of standing over a vat of boiling water, cooking some kind of Italian pasta to perfection. This may be one definition of the term, but in reference to one of the oddest fishing styles known, it refers to the art of fishing for catfish using only bare hands and a big stick for prodding purposes. That is correct; using only your bare hands to feel your way along the mud-caked bottom
  • 10 Best Brands Of Bass Fishing Baits  By : Anthony Lee

  • A Fly Fishing Guide Can Help You Plan Your Next Trip  By : Michelle Bery -
Fishing has long been a sport of both necessity and hobby, drawing enthusiasts far and wide who love the great outdoors and a chance to test their skill at the edge of a stream or lake – or in the middle of the ocean. Fly fishing in particular has enjoyed tremendous popularity over many generations of fishermen. But because fly fishing differs so greatly from traditional fishing, there are a variety of decisions to make that are normally unnecessary. In this instance, a fly fishing guide can be most helpful in planning out your experience.

Fly fishing has existed in recorded history for nearly 2000 years and gets its name from the fisherman’s use of artificial flies as bait. As opposed to traditional fishing where fishermen use organic bait – live or dead – as bait, fly fishermen use a variety of synthetic material as bait. The types of flies are chosen based on the type of fish that are trying to be attracted; once attached to the hook and line, the fly is cast out to the water using rhythmic movements that replicate the movements of an insect or something that to which the fish would be attracted. During dry fly fishing, the fly is made to “dance” above the water; in wet fly fishing, the fly is actually submerged in order to attract fish beneath the surface. Determining the type of fly fishing that will be done depends solely on the type of fish the fisherman is interested in catching and that is where a fly fishing guide can be most helpful.
  • A Primer On Fly Fishing Reels  By : Nomad Rick
If you are getting into fly fishing, it is easy to lose yourself in the great debate on rods and flies. Not so fast. The reel is just as important, so here is a primer.

The fly fishing reel is a work of art. In fact, the first one was patented in 1874 by the epic master of fly fishing – Charles Orvis. His family has been making fly fishing equipment in one form or another since them. As technology has improved dramatically, reels have also become more sophisticated. That being said, they still are comprised of some fairly basic components.

  • Bass Fishing At Night - An Effective Way To Fish  By : Gray Rollins -
The classic image of bass fishing is lazing in a rowboat in the middle of a lake on a sunny afternoon. However, some smart bass enthusiasts have discovered that the best way to get great bass during the summertime months is by fishing in the dead of night. There are a lot of reasons why night fishing for bass is a great idea, so if you haven’t tried evening fishing yet, give it a shot and be prepared to reel in some winners. Summer is the most popular season for fishing, which has both positive and negative aspects for sportsmen. Because bait and equipment are in so much demand during the warmer months of the year, these goods are plentiful and easy to find as retailers stock up in order to get the best bait and tackle to their customers. However, as fishing fans flock to lakes and streams all over the country, all too often the peace and quiet of the sport becomes quite elusive as multiple sportsmen jockey for position on the same water. The summertime crowds can take away a lot of the fun of bass fishing. If you choose to fish at odd times of the night, it is likely that you will never run into the problem of overcrowding. Because only a small percentage of bass fishermen hit the water in the dark, you should have no trouble finding a pond or a lake offering plenty of solitude and a supply of fish that is all yours for the taking.

Another reason why bass fishing at night during the summer can prove to be a kind of fisherman’s jackpot has to do with the habits of the bass themselves. Bass prefer to stay cool, so they tend to head for the deepest waters that they can find during the intense heat of midday and afternoon. The deeper down in the pond the fish are lurking, the more difficult they are to catch and reel in. This can lead to fruitless afternoons of sitting in the sweltering heat and catching very little bass. However, during the cool nighttime hours, the bass come much more readily into shallow waters. This means that they are easier for sportsmen to find and to catch.

  • Bass Fishing Techniques, Tips & Tricks  By : Morgan Hamilton
Since I was a young boy, I've always wanted to learn how to fish. However, I never really had the time to do it. My family lives in the middle of a major city so I didn't have a lot of opportunities to pick up a rod and reel. Anyway, I made up my mind to start doing the things I've always wanted to do, but never quite got around to, now that my kids are off at college and I've got more time to myself. I'm currently looking for some fun and easy ways to learn basic bass fishing techniques. This way I’ll have something to show to my buddies when we go on a camping trip next month.

To be honest, I never actually knew that there would be specific bass fishing techniques to learn. I figured that I just need to bait the hook, cast the line into the water, and sit around until something bit because I have never fished before in my life. I guess that's not the way to do things if you're serious about catching some fish. I realized that I will be able to achieve results by learning some tried and true fishing techniques developed by the pros. I am ready to devote myself to studying bass fishing techniques for the next few weeks because I want to impress my friends by catching a lot of big fish on my very first time out.

  • Brief Overview Of Saltwater Fly Fishing Reels  By : dave (Author)
While saltwater fly fishing is all about getting good casts and the excitement of the fight, one of your most important purchases behind the rod, is the reel used in this exciting sport. Most reels used in this "extreme" fishing are single action reels and for good reason as their counterparts (Multiplier reels) aren't quite up to par. Multiplier reels are quite a bit more expensive and has many more moving parts. As anyone similar with fly fishing or saltwater can't tell you, the more moving parts something has the more trouble one can expect.

In single action reels, you have the choice between direct drive and anti-reverse reels. There difference is how the reel goes about releasing line from the spool. In the sport of fly fishing the most popular all-round is direct drive, where the handle spins backwards when line is released. This makes it easy for fly fisherman to tell how much line is going out and how much there retrieving but keep in mind most fly fisherman aren't trying to reel in line from a bonefish swimming at 20 mph which makes that spinning handle dangerous for your fingers, hands or anything else it could come in contact with. This is where anti-reverse reels come in for the rescue. The handle on an anti-reverse reel stays stationary as line is striped away from the reel. For lighter species the direct drive is a good choice. But for larger species both options have there pluses and minuses, because when the drag is set lightly on anti-reverse reels, they have a tendency to slip when reeling the line in.

It turned out that I do not only love water but I also love Lake Michigan salmon fishing as well. However, taking to the process was difficult for me and I was a little apprehensive about the whole thing. I think that fish is wonderful after it has been properly cleaned, cooked and served but the idea of handling a live salmon wasn’t very appealing to me.

Next, decide on what kind of fish it is that you’re looking for, so you can buy the right kind of bait. Using the right equipment will massively increase the amount of fish you catch, guaranteed. • Fishing Guides Can Help You Reel In The Big Ones  By : Morgan Hamilton
Do you have memories about fishing? Well, I certainly have and I can never forget a particular hot summer day. I think that I was only seven years old at that time. I can remember that I was fumbling around in the boat for a bobber that day. These things are probably my favorite aspect of fishing. After all, I won’t be able to know if a fish was gnawing on the line without them.

The bobber made fishing simple. I knew that a fish is nibbling on my bait if it plunged below the water's surface. Anyway, I managed to find my bobber and I threaded a nice fat night-crawler on that sharp hook, just the way my father had taught me. To be honest, it was kind of gross watching its guts ooze out.
  • Fishing Ideas To Withstand A Heat Wave  By : Gabriel Adams -
I live in Texas, and during the summer months the heat can be unbearable. I love fishing, but during that time of year, I can not stay out in my boat very long before I am miserable. However I love fishing so much that I usually force myself to go out at least a two or three weekends a month, even though it is very hot outside. Over the past few years I have tried to come up with a few new ways to enjoy the fishing experience without having to go out fishing during the heat of the day. My favorite fishing ideas to withstand a heat wave are playing fishing games and fishing in the dark.

I have a few computer fishing games that I like to play during the summertime, because I can enjoy many of the aspects of fishing without having to get out in the heat. I like to play the realistic bass fishing games that lets you fish real lakes, so that I can plan where I am going to fish when I really visit that particular lake. I also like to try out different lures and dead or live bait to see which species of fish tend to bite on which types of bait. All of these aspects of fishing games allow me to have fun fishing without having to be out in the heat.

It has always been a part of the nature of an American to seek the wilderness. In the early days of our country, the wilderness was usually just over the next hill. It pulls us still though. If you want to experience it, there is still a place in the United States where it can be found.

This is not accidental. It responds to the necessity to preserve the resource, allowing to the fish to develop, without alterations, his reproductive cycle (that takes place in winter). Finalized the autumn, the fish initiate a trip above waters of the rivers and streams for the egg laying. In provincial lakes (we did not say in the national parks...), the year is allowed the fishing - with the corresponding restrictions throughout.
Many people want to cast well enough to fish effectively but we are reaching out to people intending to master the rod and line so they can enjoy the sensation of casting a fully controlled loop to a particular spot, be it near or far away, with such aplomb and savoir faire that the cast itself is a sufficient reward. • Fishing Skiffs  By : Nomad Rick
If you are going to head out on the water for a bit of fishing, you need the right equipment. One of the more basic things you will need is to choose among fishing skiffs.

The word skiff has been used over the years to describe a lot of boats that seemingly have no relationship to each other. The word comes from the same root as the word ship, which may be part of the problem. So, what exactly is meant by fishing skiff? One current example of a fishing skiff is a relatively inexpensive, flat bottomed boat with a pointed bow and a flat stern. They are intended for use in shallow inland waters. The original boats of this type were intended to be propelled by oars or poles, but recent models have been designed to accept small outboard motors.

  • Fly Fishing Basics Are The Gateway To Understanding An Ancient Technique  By : Michelle Bery -
Everyone knows the basics of fishing. There’s a rod, reel, fishing line, hook, bait; you cast the line, wait for a bite, and reel in your dinner. Experienced fishermen know there is more to it than that, but for most of us that description appropriately sums it up. However, there are many types of fishing, such as salt water and fresh water, and perhaps the most artful of them all, fly fishing. You have probably heard of fly fishing - it has been in recorded history for nearly 2000 years - and you probably know that it does not involve fishing for flies, but if that is all you know then a primer in fly fishing basics can bring you up to speed.

Unlike other forms of fishing, fly fishing does not typically use any kind of organic bait, live or dead. Instead, fly fisherman use artificial flies – ribbon, string, hair, feathers – as a lure to attract fish. The artificial flies are attached to the hook and line, and the fisherman attracts fish with movement that makes the fly look like an insect that is moving on or above the surface of the water. The nature of that artificial bait is the first and most important element to understand when examining fly fishing basics.
