Everybody has some bands or artists that they listen to but all their friends, family, people they talk to hate. Scooter are one of those bands for me and I think I only have one friend who can tolerate them for more than a song or two and that's only because he likes the genre of music.
  • Squeeze Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I started listening to Squeeze when I was about 7 or 8 because I remember buying Take Me I'm Yours at a flea market (I used to go to look for old original records) for about 25p on cassette single, and I remember buying it just because I liked the cover art. At another flea market pretty soon after I got the Squeeze album for about 75p and ever since then have loved their music.
  • Fleetwood Mac Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I probably started listening to Fleetwood Mac when I was about 10, 11 or something like that because I remember getting their Greatest Hits album and it had only just been released and at the time I didn't really know who they were but because I always listen to all sorts of music people just used to buy me music instead of toys. When I listened to it I knew most of the tracks and I now think of it as one of my top 20 albums of all time.

  • Blur Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I have liked Blur since before they became popular after the release of their Parklife album which most people think was their first. Back in the day there was a big band battle between Blur and Oasis and most people chose one or the other but I chose both. Both bands have different styles and I think Blur made some good music.
  • Iron Maiden Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
The song Charlotte the Harlot probably started me listening to Iron Maiden more than just hearing them on the radio because (and I know this is mean) when I was at school back in the day there was a girl I knew called Charlotte and I used to call her Charlotte the Harlot because of knowing the song. This was really when I was a little kid of about 8 and I actually ended up having her as a girlfriend when I was about 14, so it all worked out ok in the end.
  • Blondie Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
There were two main reasons I started listening to Blondie and they were: first I thought Debbie Harry was amazingly beautiful and second the style of music they made. At the time I got into Blondie I was listening to a lot of punk and new wave stuff like The Sex Pistols, The Clash, Sham 69, The Exploited, Ramones, Ian Dury, The Stranglers, etc... and it also helped me to annoy my parents. I actually used to like putting posters on my wall when I was a kid at school and one of my posters was a full size poster of Debbie Harry.
  • The Smiths Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
The Smiths are another of my favourite Manchester bands and as I have said before, you have to support your own. I think I initially started listening to The Smiths when What Difference Does It Make came out in 1983 and I thought Morrissey had one of the most interesting voices and lyrical styles which were not the usual sort popular at the time. Some people think that The Smiths were a depressing band with very boring lyrics but I think I connected with them because of that. I like to be unique and different which I think is reflected by some of the music I listen to. I do think some of the songs contain very emotional lyrics but I wouldn't say they were too depressing or boring and actually quite funny.
  • Texas Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I have liked Texas ever since they released their first single (I Don't Want A Lover) while I was still at school. At the time I was still listening to "pop" music and the charts on the radio regularly (which I don't do much anymore) and I thought Sharleen had one of the best female singing voices I have ever heard. Usually when out at a party or at the pub and a DJ is on you are restricted by the music they carry but you can bet on the fact they will have at least one Texas song on a cd somewhere, so I generally ask them to play it because mostly they dont have some of my other favourite music (The doors, Jimi Hendrix, Wu-Tang, etc...) which I would probably request otherwise.
  • Pink Floyd Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I think I probably started listening to Pink Floyd because I used to chill with some dudes who smoked weed and used to play Floyd a lot and I found the music is really good to listen to when you are stoned. Pink floyd are a kind of psychedelic rock cross breed and their lyrics are quite deep and philosophical.
  • Traveling Wilburys Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
The Traveling Wilburys are not only one of my favourite groups because they made some very good music but also because the group consisted of some of my favourite artists. I started listening to The Traveling Wilburys when I was about 15 when my nanna got me a harmonica because I love the sound it makes and I was into Bob Dylan. The harmonica is one of the instruments I can actually play and I still have the harmonica my nanna gave me to this day and still play it occasionally.
  • Enigma Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I first started listening to Enigma about the time Return To Innocence was released and was played on the radio a lot. Most people I know don't listen to Enigma because they just don't know about them. Most people think they have never of heard them until you tell them some of their songs. Enigma are an electronic trance group and started a completely new music genre, Enigmatic Music.

  • Jimi Hendrix Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I have listened to Jimi Hendrix since I can remember and he was probably the first person I ever wanted to be when I was a kid. I love the guitar but I can play it about as much as I can walk on the moon. When I was much younger I attempted to take guitar lessons, but I didn't have my own guitar and had to use my dads. The problem with that is, I'm left handed and my dad right handed and so we had to keep switching the strings about which my dad moaned at. There was no way I could play the guitar left handed like Jimi Hendrix so I eventually gave up and decided to appreciate the guitar skills in others and focus my energy on other things.
  • The Beatles Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
Being from Manchester which is quite close to Liverpool there is some local rivalry (especially between Manchester United F.C. and Liverpool F.C.) between the two towns and as such I generally support the Manchester bands first, but I think the whole world likes The Beatles even if they won't admit it. The Beatles are the most successful of any bands, ever.
  • Beach Boys Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I don't think I know anybody who doesn't like at least one Beach Boys song, but I like most and have liked them since I was younger. When I was about 10 I used to save my pocket money and buy LP's and one day while I was at the market I came across Pet Sounds and bought it for 50p because I actually thought it was going to be the sounds of various animals, and thought it would be funny to own. When I got home and played it realised that it wasn't what i thought at all, but became an instant fan. After that I saved up again and again and bought more Beach Boys albums.
  • The Carpenters Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
This is another band I have to thank my sis P for getting me into. When we were little kids my sister used to watch the Karen Carpenter Story over and over when we were on our 6 weeks holiday from school, and I used to pretend I didn't like it for a while because it was "girly" but eventually I gave in and then we used to sing all the songs together when they came on.
  • ABBA Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I began listening to ABBA when I was about 15 or so and just leaving school because obviously I had heard some of their songs on the radio and TV but somehow I came across an ABBA cassette and played it and then played it over and over. Musically and phonetically ABBA are one of my favourite groups of all time (which is why I am writing this).
  • James Biography and Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
James are probably my favourite of all the Manchester bands that I like (you have to support your own boys and girls). I first started listening to James because my sister P liked them when I was a kid.
  • Wu Tang Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I first started listening to Wu-Tang when a friend of mine was talking about one of their songs and I hadn't heard it, so I made it my goal to listen to the song. Once I had listened to it I became an instant fan and addict and that doesn't happen often to me because I like most kinds of music.
  • The Doors Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
The Doors were an American band and were formed in Venice Beach in 1965 and consisted of Jim Morrison (Vocals), Robby Krieger (Guitarist), Ray Manzarek (Keyboards) and John Densmore (Drums).

  • The Stone Roses Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
I started listening to The Stone roses while I was still at school, back in the day, when the whole Madchester scene was going on and there were a lot of Manchester Indie bands fighting it out in the clubs. I was too young to go and watch the Stone Roses legally and was actually sneaked into the Hacienda in Manchester to watch them perform. This was one of the first times I was in a room full of people on drugs. The place was alive and the music was pumping and the sweat was dripping. This was one of the most exciting and enjoyable gig's I have ever experienced.

  • Pet Shop Boys Biography And Top 10 Songs  By : Andy Jackson - Wisdom_Mcr
When I was a kid I had heard the Pet Shop Boys on the radio whenever new singles had been released but it wasn't until I was about 14 or 15 when I started to take more of an interest in their music. This was because I had never taken the time to listen to more than one song at a time. I used to chill with a group of dudes at my friend chicken's house and he had the Pet Shop Boys Discography album and used to play it and the more times I heard it the better it became. I have most Pet Shop Boys albums now and listen to them on a regular basis.

  • Making Your Own Music: Songwriting Basics  By : Sintilia Miecevole
Whether you are a teenager or are well into your golden years, it is never too late to explore your creative side, especially if you are interested in music. Songwriting is an excellent way to express your thoughts and feelings and to communicate them to your friends and family, even if you have no aspirations of musical fame or fortune. If you are interested in selling or performing your songs, however, you should be aware that it is a hard road and that very few songwriters achieve great fame or fortune, and especially not instantly. Nonetheless, if you have realistic expectations, you will find that writing music is a worthwhile experience whether it is a hobby or a profession.

People write songs in many different ways. Some writers compose the music first, while others first write the words. For some, the words and the melody come to them at the same time, while others write the melodies first and write the words last. No matter what order you are comfortable with, you will eventually have to decide what the song is about. There are a variety of different types of songs ranging from songs that tell fictional stories to songs that communicate deep personal feelings.
  • What Is Country Music Anyway?  By : Sintilia Miecevole
When many people think of country music, they think of sad songs about lost loves, broken down trucks and runaway dogs. In their minds, they are hearing all of these woes sung in the traditional twangy country accents of the south. However, these perceptions of country music are far from where this style of music has evolved. Today, country music is one of the most popular genres of music, normally outsold only by rock and pop genres.

Created in the late 19th century, country music has under gone many changes over the years. There are now many sub-genres to this type of music, with some of the sub-genres being commonly played on top 40 radio stations.
