  • 5 Things You Should Know Before You Invest On The Stock Market  By : Gabriel Adams -
The stock market is an untamed animal, a wild beast. Sometimes, it is a raging bull that lifts and throws all stocks upwards into the sky. Sometimes it is a marauding bear that beats all stocks into the ground with brute force. And if you are entering the stock market, you have to ride this beast. It can be a rough ride or it can be smooth one depending on how you handle yourself. But, hey, you can take your precautions and plan your investments well if you keep these five factors in mind:
  • 5 Tips For Investing In Penny Stocks  By : Christopher Smith

  • A Brief History Of The Stock Market  By : Gabriel Adams -
A stock is a legal symbol of ownership in a business. When you buy stock, you are actually buying part-ownership of the business. In other words, you become a shareholder. A business will typically spread ownership to hundreds or even thousands of shareholders. Shares are sold when the company wishes to get cash. In a small business, it may be said that the owner has 100% of all shares. However, when a business grows beyond a certain size, it may require capital for expansion and selling shares is the easiest way to do that.

Most stock holders do not really have much say in how the business is run because their ownership proportion is negligible. In order to make a difference, you must own lots of shares or you must work with several smaller shareholders. Now days, buying stock has become more of an investment rather than trying to run the business. You simply buy stock and wait for the company to grow. This will appreciate the stock value and you make money by selling it. Or you could simply make do with the percentage of profits the company gives you based on your shares.

  • As The Economy Slows, A Conservative Approach To Stocks May Benefit Investors  By : Stacey Moore
Investors may want to take a more conservative approach to stock investing as the U.S. economy continues to slow during 2007, a group of investment professionals from Eaton Vance advised. A focus on large-cap, high-quality, domestic stocks may help investors' portfolios better withstand the market volatility that is likely to ensue in such an environment. The mutual fund managers made their recommendations at a recent market outlook discussion hosted by the investment management firm.

"For investors who may have moved out of stocks in favor of bonds earlier in this decade, now may be the time to come back to stocks," said Michael Mach, portfolio manager of Eaton Vance Large-Cap Value Fund. "Our outlook for the stock market is optimistic, and we believe some of the more conservative sectors of the equity market are among the most attractively valued today."

  • How To Win On The Stock Market  By : Blueboy
I am somebody who loves to invest money on the stock market. Some might see this as a bit of a gamble which in a way it is, there are however certain steps people can take to limit this risk which may well help them to make money.

I see the stock market as a bit of a rollercoaster in that it is always going up and down. It has many peaks and troughs which can make it hard to know when it is the right time to invest or to sell. Some people see an event such as the terrorist attacks on September the eleventh, where the stock market fell in a big way, as a good time to invest where as other people may panic and sell all of their holdings in case of another attack.

  • Making Your Money Grow In The Stock Market  By : Joe Goertz
One way of making your money grow is investing in the stock market. Stocks are how companies grow without securing bank loans. The investor buys the company stock (shares) and receives interest in the form of stock dividends. Share holders can affect the operation of a company. Each year, there is a share holders meeting and different issues are presented for the share holders to vote on. The greater the number of shares that an investor has, the greater the number of votes the stock holder can exercise.

  • On Volatility And Risk  By : Sam Vaknin
Volatility is considered the most accurate measure of risk and, by extension, of return, its flip side. The higher the volatility, the higher the risk - and the reward. That volatility increases in the transition from bull to bear markets seems to support this pet theory. But how to account for surging volatility in plummeting bourses? At the depths of the bear phase, volatility and risk increase while returns evaporate - even taking short-selling into account.

"The Economist" has recently proposed yet another dimension of risk:
  • online stock trading,stock market trading,stock investing,stock quote  By : Bill Dufrane
The difference between stocks and bonds isn't clear to those just starting in the wonderful world of investing. While stocks give investors part ownership of a company, bonds are loans made by investors to corporations or governments. Rather than benefiting from company profits the way that stock holders do, bond holders receive a fixed rate of return – a fixed interest rate. Bonds only last for so long and have a termination date called the date of maturity. Also, they can take decades to mature, whereas stock exchanges happen with lightning speed every day. If you are just looking to make a quick buck with high risk, go for stocks. In comparison, if you need stability, say, for a retirement, you might choose bonds.

Volume should start to pick up beginning next week as institutional traders and money managers look to put new money in for the new quarter.

My overall opinion of SPY and the market in general is you ought to be on the sidelines in cash at the moment. In other words that you should book profits in your shorts and proceed to the security of cash. SPY, after 3 tests of the 104.30 support over the last 2 weeks, has stopped being in a downtrend. We're in a sideways trading range and until a definite trend develops, you need to be on the sidelines or playing the long side with very strict and tight stop losses set up.

  • Taking Penny Stock Risks  By : Christopher Smith
The term penny stocks generally refers to any stocks that trade outside the major stock exchanges and is taken as 'deprecatory'. The major stock exchanges would include: NASDAQ, AMEX, or NYSE. The term Penny stock is also often used interchangeably with small caps and nano caps. The title of penny stock however should be determined by the share price rather than the listing service or market capitalization.
Penny stocks often have market caps lower than $500 million. This makes it highly speculative for those who trade low volumes 'over the counter'. Some believe that penny stocks are difficult to sell once purchased because of the difficulty in locating quotes on particular penny stocks. Investors in these stocks are expected to understand that the loss of their entire investment is a viable risk.

You have probably given real estate a good look and determined that, although attractive, it is more ideal for a full-time real estate investor because it demands a lot of effort and time. You also probably have a tidy little sum invested in various banking tools like savings and time deposits as well as common trust bonds and government securities. That’s all well and good and your money is safe right there. But now you want to shoot for the moon, mainly by investing in the kind of company and industry that you may be familiar with. You are eager to try the stock market.

  • The Basics Of The Stock Market  By : Edward Bryce
Stocks are the basic building block of the stock market. A stock represents partial ownership of a company - the smallest share possible. Companys issues stocks to raise capital and investors who buy stock are actually buying a portion of the company. Ownership, even a small share, gives investors rights to a say in how the company is run and a share in the profits (if any). While stocks give owners certain rights, they do not carry obligation in case the company defaults or faces a lawsuit. Worse comes to worse, the stock becomes worth absolutely nothing but thats where the liability ends - investors will never actually owe money if the company goes bankrupt.

  • Wall Street, October 1929  By : Sam Vaknin
Claud Cockburn, writing for the "Times of London" from New-York, described the irrational exuberance that gripped the nation just prior to the Great Depression. As Europe wallowed in post-war malaise, America seemed to have discovered a new economy, the secret of uninterrupted growth and prosperity, the fount of transforming technology:

"The atmosphere of the great boom was savagely exciting, but there were times when a person with my European background felt alarmingly lonely. He would have liked to believe, as these people believed, in the eternal upswing of the big bull market or else to meet just one person with whom he might discuss some general doubts without being regarded as an imbecile or a person of deliberately evil intent - some kind of anarchist, perhaps."

  • What Happens When Stocks Split  By : Adam J. Heist
Stock splitting is one of the best things that can happen to an investor. When a stock splits, then the stockholders would receive twice as many shares as before. Though the volume of the shares would almost double, the value of each share would be reduced. Supposing a company splits its stock two-for-one, i.e. it issues one new share on each existing one, then the value of each share would be reduced to half. Thus the number of shares would become twice as before, but the total value would remain unchanged. It’s something like getting two five-dollar bills in place of a single ten-dollar bill. The value would remain the same, but the bulk of paper would become twofold.

Sometimes an investor may feel a stock to be quite beyond his/her reach due to the high price per share of the stock. But when the stock splits, then the reduced value becomes much more affordable to the smaller investors. A $100 share could seem to be too much to invest in, but if it is split two-way, then the $50 stock would seem to be more affordable. This is the reason why companies go ahead and split their stocks.
