Fabric and Material. T-Shirts of a 50/50 blend of cotton and polyester are the most common type of material used for embroidery. For heat transfers, t-shirts must have at least a 35 % cotton content. For embroidery, since cotton t-shirts or cotton blended materials are so light, fewer stitches are used that in a heavy fabric such as denim. This results in lower cost, since embroidery design is priced by the stitch.
