Blueboy's Articles in Public Speaking

  • Fluent Speech And How To Achieve It
This article is all about how to achieve fluency and looks at the specific speech impediment known as stammering/stuttering. My name is Steve Hill, I suffered with a stutter from the age of four and despite regular conventional speech therapy, continued stuttering until the age of twenty-two.

I found life with a stutter extremely frustrating as at times I could speak very well. For example when I spoke to what is now my ex-girlfriend I very rarely had a problem, however when attempting to speak to her parents I struggled quite badly.
  • Advice On How To Deliver A Successful Public Speech
Public speaking is something most people try to avoid and even dread. At times in my life, I have found myself having to deliver a speech and therefore I needed to learn the best way of doing this. In this article, I write about what I learnt from reading many books about public speaking, advice which has helped me to successfully deliver these speeches.

Many people get very nervous before and during their presentation or speech. This can have a negative affect on our breathing and can leave us out of breath. When you feel nervous it is a good idea to remember to take regular breaths when talking. In my opinion you should be looking to breath every six to eight words. The nerves will make our muscles contract and can make your chest feel really tight. This is a natural reaction and it is a good idea to take a few deep breaths before starting your talk to help you to relax.

  • The Perfect Best Man's Speech
Have you been asked to be the best man at a friends wedding? Are you looking for advice about how to deliver a good best man's speech? Are you getting slightly stressed as you are not sure what to say in your best man's speech? If you have answered yes to any of these questions this article is one which may help you as it could well provide you with the answers to all of the above potential problems.

I have attended many weddings over the last few years and often witness the best man worrying and stressing about what to talk about and about what to include in their speech. They may well have many stories to tell about the groom but are unsure as to whether they would be suitable to the audience etc. This audience of course is likely to include the yound and the old, therefore it can not be too offensive. The best man however would hope that this audience enjoys and finds his speech enjoyable and funny.
  • The Fear Of Giving A Best Man's Speech At My Brother's Wedding
I have recently been asked to be the best man at my brother's wedding and I have to admit that I am very nervous about it. These nerves are purely based upon the fact that I have a phobia of giving a public speech. What should I do? Should I tell him about my fear and phobia in the hope that he will ask someone else or should I attempt to face and overcome my demons? I think that most people would agree that this second option is the best but how many people would actually try and get out of giving this speech?

I am quite sure that most people in this same situation would also be quite nervous but I have more reasons than most to have this fear. This is because I, for reasons which I am unsure of, developed a speech impediment when I was five years of age. Basically I had a stammering problem for the next seventeen years before eventually managing to achieve fluency when I was twenty-two years of age. Even though I no longer have a fear of stammering I am not one for being the centre of attention and the thought of having to talk in front of a large crowd which will include a lot of our family and friends just fills me with dread.

Very few people out there actually enjoy or look forward to speaking in front of a crowd. The majority of people would in fact admit to dreading having to talk in public, especially if the speech is in front of either our friends, family or work colleagues.
