Blueboy's Articles in Sports & Recreation

  • How All Seater Stadiums Have Taken The Atmosphere Out Of Football Grounds
I have been to watch football matches from a very early age. My father started taking me to watch my favourite team Birmingham City from the age of six. In this article I write about how in my opinion, all seater stadiums have taken the atmosphere out of football grounds.

I remember as a young child feeling quite intimidated by the crowd at Birmingham City's home ground, called St Andrews. The noise and singing of the supporters was even quite frightening at times.
  • My Passion For Playing Snooker
One of my great passions in life, if you could call it that is playing snooker. I became interested in snooker from watching players like Alex Higgins and Jimmy White in the 1980s.

At the age of around ten, I was bought a small five foot snooker table for Christmas. It was probably one of the best Christmas presents I was ever bought. I would seemingly be never off this little snooker table and would invite some of my friends round to also play.
  • The Impact Of Luck On Snooker Results
I have recently been watching the world snooker championships which are held in Sheffield. I have noticed how luck can play a major part in deciding the results of many of the matches played. This must be a huge frustration to the players who have spent many hours practicing for the tournament.

I myself have been playing snooker for around twenty years and have reached a fairly high standard. Even though luck does play a part at the level that I play at, it certainly does not influence the results as much as it does in the professional game.
  • The World Cup Of Football
Many people, including myself are starting to look forward to the world cup of football. The question many people are asking is who is likely to win the tournament? In this article, I give my own viewpoint on this subject and discuss some of the likely contenders (teams) who could win.

The world cup finals are being held in Germany and it promises to be a very exciting and entertaining event. The tournament which only takes place every four years is in my opinion the biggest sporting event which takes place. It means everything to all of the players taking part as well as to the supporters.
  • Can England Win The Fifa World Cup?
The football world cup is creeping ever closer and the question that many of my friends are asking is whether our team England can win the tournament. In this article I give my opinion on this matter, I hope you enjoy the read.

I think that this year England have one of the best teams they have had since probably the early nineteen-nineties. In saying that however there are a number of other very strong teams which have the potential of ruining our and the teams dreams. I will write about these teams later in the article.
  • Can The England Team Retain The Ashes In Australia?
I am from England and love the sport of cricket. In my opinion the ashes series of 2005 was one of the most exciting sporting events that I have ever witnessed. The Australian team which is without question the best side in the world were out battled, out thought and out played by a determined England side. The question is whether the English team can retain the ashes in Australia in 2006.

Since that historic home victory against the Aussies, the English cricket team have not exactly set the cricket world alight. There are a number of reasons for this of course, including a large number of injuries. Players such as the captain Micheal Vaughan have been unable to play which has had an obvious negative impact on the team as a whole.
  • Great British Sporting Events
In this article I write about some of the most famous British sporting events which take place on a yearly basis. My name is Steve Hill from Birmingham and I love to watch most sports especially football, tennis, snooker, horse racing and cricket.

I am currently looking forward to the Fifa World Cup and the winter cricket Ashes tour to Australia. These are sporting events which are not played on an annual basis but are every four years in respect of the football world cup and normally every two years for the ashes series.
  • The Standard Of Football Referees In The Premiership
What do you think of the current standard of the football referees in the English Premiership? Do you think a system of video replays should be introduced to help these referees and to stop what are some important mistakes being made? These two questions are things which myself and my friends debate on a regular basis, especially after a few beers.

I will never forget attending a football match a few years ago which was played in one of the leagues below the Premiership. It was a very important match between my favourite team Birmingham City and one of their local rivals Stoke City. It was an important match because Birmingham really needed to win the game as they were in danger of being relegated in that particular season. The three points for the win would certainly have helped them in their quest to survive.
  • The Life Of David Beckham
In this article I write about the England and Real Madrid footballer David Beckham. Beckham no doubt is looking forward to leading England at the forthcoming Fifa World Cup of football and victory would provide that final acolade to what has been a very successful career.

David Beckham was born around the London area of England and as a child soon developed a passion for playing football. His dad would take him to the local park to practice his skills including how to trap and control a ball. He would at times kick it up in the air as high as he could and would then ask David to attempt to control it as it came back down towards the ground. Young Beckham would also practice the art of scoring a goal from the other half of the pitch. This is a particular skill which is very hard to perfect. Years later when he played a famous game at Wimbledon, he scored such a goal which highlighted his talent and put him on the football map.
  • An Insight Into Michael Owen
Do you think Michael Owen is past his best? Do you think he should still command a regular starting place in the England team? Has Michael Owens injuries affected him too much? Has Michael lost some of his passion to the play at the top level of the game? In this article I give my own opinion about these questions, I hope you enjoy the read.

Michael Owen burst onto the international football stage with what can only be described as a wonder goal against Argentina in the World Cup. At this stage he had pace to burn and was lethal in front of goal. The future was very exciting for his club, country and of course for himself.
  • A Summer Of Great British Sport
Are you a Brit who loves their sport? Are you looking forward to the Fifa World Cup? Are you a tennis fan? Do you love the cricket? If you are fan of sport then this could be a summer to saviour and remember. I personally have been looking forward to this summer for many months and am very excited at all of the sporting events that are forthcoming. I am from England and really believe that my national team have a real chance of winning the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

As well as the World Cup there are many more sporting events taking place that should make this summer one of the best in years.
  • Wayne Rooney The Superstar
Are you a football supporter? Do you support England? Are you looking forward to the football World Cup? These are three questions which I would have answered a big yes to and I am very happy to learn that Wayne Rooney looks likely to be fit to play some part in the Fifa World Cup tournament. He could prove to be the man that helps bring glory to our proud footballing nation.

The hype around the foot injury of Wayne Rooney has been absolutely massive and has been possibly way over the top. I would have much preferred more focus to have been placed on some of our other better players such as David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole and Michael Owen. In saying that, in a way it could have been a blessing in disguise as the players mentioned and the other members of the squad, have had quite a lot of the attention taken away from them.
  • Information About Warwick Castle
If you are looking for a great family day out then you could not go far wrong with a trip to Warwick Castle. Built in 1068 this castle is steeped in history and the surrounding gardens and views are spectacular. I am somebody who loves to visit different castles around the country and I would have to say that Warwick is probably my favourite.

As you walk around the castle and its grounds you see many people dressed in original costume and in the summer there are normally barbeques in the gardens and on one occasion I saw a puppet show.
  • Is Football Coming Home
The English football team have managed to reach the quarter finals of the Fifa World Cup, will this finally be the year that football comes back home for the first time since 1966? Despite not playing their best football, England are still in the tournament and must have a great chance of lifting the trophy.

Some might say that I am biased as I am from England myself and am an avid England supporter, however I really feel that 2006 could be the year for our boys out there in Germany. This may of course be all blown away on Saturday when the team face Portugal and big Phil Scolari. Scolari has been the manager of the last two teams who have knocked England out of the last two major tournaments and therefore will pose a big threat to my team. He was the manager of the Brazil team that beat England in the 2002 World Cup and he was and still is the manager of the Portugal team that beat England in the 2004 European Championship. I am hoping that it will be third time lucky for the English this year.
  • Who Will Win The English Premiership In 2007?
Now the Fifa World Cup is out of the way, after yet another disappointing performance from the English team, focus is once again turning to the start of the Premiership. In this article, I write about the contenders for the trophy and give my opinion on who I think will end up as the champions in May 2007.

The English Premiership will be devalued this season after the relegation last time around of my favourite team Birmingham City. Well maybe not, I have to admit my team deserved to go down but at least I will never have to witness Mario Melchiott playing in the blue and white of Birmingham ever again. Steve Bruce still deserves a kick up the backside for sticking with players like Mario right up until the end. It was plain to see that these type of players were just going through the motions and in truth deserved a right hook, as they were basically robbing the club at the end of the day. A whole hearted player like Bruce surely could also see this and the fact that he kept on sticking up for these players week in week out is barely believable.
  • A Torrid Summer For British Sport
This summer promised so much for lovers of British Sport but as usual all of the hype led to some very below par performances and results. The football team in the World Cup were very boring to watch, played in a very negative way and never looked liked winning the tournament. In this article, I will be writing about this sporting event as well as looking at the Wimbledon tennis championships and the recent international cricket one-day series with Sri Lanka.

I was very excited about this summers sporting activities involving our British sporting stars. I really believed that England could have won the World Cup and still think that they should have. Our team has so much more talent in it than the eventual winners Italy, but had an inept coach who must have been laughing all the way to the bank, earning the crazy amounts that he did. Yes Wayne Rooney was stupid but how frustrated must he have been after being left to play up front on his own, this is a position which is not natural to him and is a huge waste of his talents.
  • Setting Up A Junior Football Team
Are you thinking of starting a junior football team but are unsure about how to proceed? I have recently set up such a team for the age group of under sevens and in this article I will give advice as to what is involved in the way of organisation etc.

My name is Stephen Hill and I have a son who is six years of age. I have been taking him to train with a football team for the last two months. He is however too young to play in the matches for this team which greatly annoys him as he loves his football.
  • Why Steve Mclaren Must Go For England To Reach Euro 2008
After only a few games of having Steve McLaren as our national football teams manager, I am already looking for him to be replaced. Yet again our English football association has dropped a clanger in appointing the wrong man. After the debacle of Sven Goran Errickson we know have another passionless manager, when are they going to learn?

It has been a poor week for English football. On Saturday the team were only able to muster a nil-nil draw against what was a well organised Macedonian team. Throughout the match I was basically bored, how can a nation who is well known for having probably the fastest premier league in the world, have one of the slowest national teams? This was a home international game, I could not see where the hunger or passion was likely to come from.
