  • Vitamin Overdose - Too Much Of A Good Thing
We've all heard about vitamin deficiencies, but what about vitamin megadoses. There can be too much of a good thing. Were all well aware of how important it is to get enough vitamins. Just ask any grade school kid what happens when you don't getenough vitamin C. They'll tell you tales of scurvy with the original explorers, and how their teeth fell out, and other gross stuff. But, it's also quite easy these days take too many vitamins, with serious consequences. We always seem to assume that if 3 tables a day of wonder vitamin xzy is good for us, than 10 tablets must be even better. Right? Wrong! There can be some serious consequences for taking megadoses of vitamins. The scary part, is there is no really good guideline on how much is too much when it comes to vitamins. Staying within the recommended RDA for a particular vitamin is generally considered safe, but venturing beyond that, puts you in no mans land.
  • Minerals Your Body Needs To Know
There are seven major minerals required by every body. Do you know what they are, and are you getting enough? The seven major minerals are calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sulfur, sodium, potassium, and chloride. While discussing all of these minerals in detail is beyond the scope of this article, there is room to discuss a number of them in some detail. Let's start with calcium.
  • Mineral Deficiency - Are You Getting Enough?
Mineral deficiency is practically unheard of for some, but not all minerals. Do you know which ones? Anyone who manages to eat a relatively sensible diet is pretty much guaranteed to not have have a mineral deficiency when it comes to sulfur, manganese, chromium or molybdenum. As a matter of record, no nutritional expert has ever documented a case in North America where a deficiency exists in any of the previously mention minerals. Too bad that can't be said for all the vitamins and minerals that our body needs. There are a few minerals you may want to give some thought to when it concerns your diet.
  • Water And Why You Need It
Considering your body is made up of fifty to seventy percent water, it's surprising how few people know why it's so important. Did you know that you can survive for weeks at a time without any food. I don't suggest trying it and I'm sure it can't be a good experience for those who have done it. But, things could have been worse. You would never survive that long without water. Without water, in just a matter of days, you will die. Obviously water is important, and the amount of water needed by everyone is different. It varies by sex, byweight, and my the amount of muscle mass vs the amount of fat you have.
  • Why You Think Foods Taste Good
Whoever decided that good tasting food (like chocolate) would be bad for you, and that bad tasting foods (like broccoli) should be good for you really screwed up. I just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Usually mother nature is pretty smart when it comes to this kind of stuff. Don't you think, that evolution and natural selection would have kicked in somewhere down the road and reversed this little mistake. Just think of all the health care issues that would be resolved if broccoli tasted like chocolate, and chocolate tasted like broccoli.
  • Food Is Good Medicine
Nobody likes medicine, but everyone likes to eat, so maybe food is the answer. There's certainly no shortage of experts telling us what not to eat because it will make us too fat, too tired, and too unhealthy. And of course there is a great deal of truth to much of this. So, eating right can help us to maintain a healthy body. But food can be used to do much more than just maintain ahealthy body. It can also be used to improve a body, cure a body, and perhaps even prevent a body from becoming deathly ill. Here are just a few examples.
