  • So What Exactly Does This Mean?
When trying to rent a car, it can be amazing the amount of technical legal jargon that can pop up and confuse what should be a relatively simple contract. Unfortunately, since you are the one who signs the contract, it is your responsibility to know what every little piece of legal jargon actually means. Here are a list of the most common terms you will run across, and the best layman’s explanation for each.
  • The Quid Quo Pro Of Car Rentals
Car rentals do have certain restrictions that apply, and it is always important to know the contracts and to know what you are and are not allowed to do before signing the agreement. While individual contracts may vary, and it is always important to read each individual contract you agree to, there are some basic common limitations with all car rental companies, and some others that are common enough to be worth asking about.
  • Rental Car Insurance: Types, Coverage, And Recommendations
When looking at the different options for car rental insurance in the United States, you will generally run into five options. These are Loss Damage Waivers (LDW) which are also commonly referred to as Collision Damage Waivers (CDW). There is also Liability Insurance Supplement (LIS), Personal Accident Insurance (PAI), and UMP, which is Un- and Underinsured Motorist Protection. The fifth option is to not take any rental insurance at all, but we’ll get back to that one later.
  • The Cdw: Collision Damage Waiver
There are some major disagreements on what the place of a Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is among renters. Some claim a CDW is just another way of ripping of the renter, while some business men suggest it is necessary. Some traveling business men suggest that a good way to save money is by declining the CDW, but you need to be careful of how to proceed. If you decline the CDW when renting a car, you are basically bound by a promise to bring back the car in the same exact condition as when you first rented it. If it is damaged from any cause, whether it is your fault or not, you will have to pay to fix the damage.
  • Caveat Emptor: Let The Renter Beware
This a good motto for business travelers to take to heart. While the same can be said for families and individuals looking for rentals, the rental business is made and maintained by business travelers, and there are very few business men, especially older ones, who have not experienced some very unwanted last-minute surprises when the final bill for the car-rental is much higher than what they originally anticipated.
