- Solar Powered Cars
The elements of nature have been created for man alone. Every single need can be acquired and it is present in nature around us. Man only needs to travel and explore the hidden treasures of nature and use them for the fulfillment of his basic needs of life. Something that doesn't need any searching shines up above in the sky. The sun is the basic source of life on earth. If there was no sun no life would have been possible.
Sun emits light which is known as the solar energy and you may have heard and studied about solar energy being used for thousands of purposes. This energy has been used for heating systems and thermal power plants are run through solar energy and so on. When you read or hear about these things you simply pass on because this is too common. - Tips For Getting A Good Plane Fare
Without a doubt, scheduling a trip on a plane is one aspect of planning a vacation that most people falter in. Few people realize exactly how to get the best rates when trying to book a flight, and they often lose money by not planning properly. For that reason, we've written this article to help inform you about exactly what you should do and what you should not do when you are planning to take a trip on an airplane.
As soon as you've decided where you want to go, it is of utmost importance to make the plane reservations as soon as possible. The best discounts for airlines are usually given to those who book more than 21 days in advance of the flight. - The Amusement Park Experience Of A Grownup
The city of Orlando, located in the U.S. State of Florida, is known all around the world thanks to its theme parks. Featuring some of the world's best theme and amusement parks, this tourist destination offers to million of visitors annually the opportunity to take a close portrait photograph with Mickey or see Shrek hugging dad while he waits in line to purchase tickets. The famous Walt Disney World Resort, the Sea World and the Universal Orlando Resort, offer thrilling rides, 3D movies, and all sort of extreme adventures, based mainly on cartoon or movie characters known to us since the time we were kids. But if one does not have kids, is there a reason to spend a small fortune for just a ride?
Well, I wish the answer was a simple yes or no. Allow me to argue before casting a stone. Last Christmas (no, not the one I gave you my heart as Wham mentioned in their famous 80s song) I was visited by my folks who decided to spend their Christmas and New Years vacations in United States for the first time. Since my brother is currently a resident of South Florida, it was inevitable for us to go where the weather conditions would be better. Thus, after taking care of some personal business, I flew to South Florida to join my family and spend my winter vacations in a sunny climate for the first time. Since my brother was really excited that we were all together again, he proposed a short journey to one or Orlando's theme parks as none of us had ever visited one. We immediately agreed and two days later we drove to discover the Islands of Adventure and jump into the actions of the Universal Studios movies. - American Football Gaining International Popularity
In most parts of the world, if you say the word "football" people assume you are referring to soccer, the most popular and most widely followed sport in the world. However, American football is starting to spark more interest overseas. The National Football League actively promotes American-style football out of the country, sending players as ambassadors and holding pre-season games in Europe, Mexico and Japan. Games are broadcast in many countries and the Super Bowl is broadcast to almost every country in the world.
American football is played in almost every continent on the planet including North and South America, Asia, Europe and the Pacific Rim nations. The International Federation of American Football is the official international governing body of American Football and oversees 45 member organizations. Beginning in 1999, the International Federation of American Football has also sponsored a world cup of American football with Japan taking the honors in both 1999 and 2003. - The Chess Challenge
On the day that I was old enough to understand the importance of strategic maneuvering when playing a game, my father decided that it was time for me to learn chess. Within a couple of months, I was carrying the chess board everywhere I was going, inviting friends to challenge my new game abilities. I still remember the reactions of those who have never been introduced to chess. They used to look me straight into the eyes asking me why they should waste their time playing such a difficult and boring game. I do not know even where to begin in order to describe what a beautiful game chess really is. With its variety of sacrifices and combinations, those who are eager to learn how it feels to belong to the winner's side can advance their gaming experience through chess. Having the opportunity to outwit your opponent either on the tactical or on the positional level, chess is in fact a game that requires a constantly working mind. Perhaps it is a "difficult" game, but this is the only way one can really be proud of the attained goal of winning a worthy opponent. Now in relation to the accusation of chess being boring, after playing chess frequently for more than ten years in a row, I really cannot describe how far away from the truth this statement really is.
First of all, if you are up to the chess challenge, you have to begin by learning the rules of the game. Being an abstract strategy board game, chess is played by two players on a square board that combines eight rows-called ranks -and eight columns- called files. Its simple design creates sixty-four squares of alternative color: one darker than the other. Each of the players is assigned to sixteen pieces (units) at the beginning of the game, which as the game progresses they are eliminated by the opponent's movements on the board. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent. This practically means that one of the players has successfully managed to perform all the appropriate strategic movements so as to threaten the opponent's king from moving. It has to be stressed that due to the variety of the chess pieces and their distinct abilities on the game's board, chess has successfully become one of the world's most popular games. - The Perfect Ten Of Nadias Life
What happens to Olympic medallists when they retire from competition? Well some of them get married with other gold medallists and become parents. At least this is the case for Nadia Comaneci and Bart Conner. Comaneci gave birth to their first child, a boy, named Dylan Paul, on June 3, 2006. It sounds as a perfect story of family happiness, but life was not always good for the legendary gymnast Nadia Comaneci.
She was born in the factory town Onesti, Romania in 1961 and was given the non-Romanian name Nadia by her mother after the heroine of a Russian film. Nadia is the shortened version of the Russian name Nadyezhda, which means literally "Hope." At the age of 14, Nadia became the star of the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal winning three gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze. Comaneci became also the first gymnast at the Olympics to receive the perfect score of ten. - Nowitzki Vs Shaq
It is one of the sportswriter's favorite tricks before every NBA finals to pick one leading player of each finalist team and call the series a duel between those players. This trick has been always really effective in the promotion of the game and of the NBA. NBA funs have watched a lot of those duels in the past: Bird vs. Magic, Jordan vs. Drexler, Olajuwon vs. Ewing or Robinson etc. The similarities and the differences between the duelers made the games even greater to watch, although we have to mention that basketball is a five against five sports, with the seven players of each team coming from the bench having also an important role in the game, not to mention the coaches, the general managers and the owners.
This year Miami Heat and Dallas Mavericks are the two teams that will fight for the title and another duel has to be found. In the case of Dallas Nowitzki who is undoubtedly the best player in his team, things are easy. But in the case of Miami, some research on O'Neal's background was necessary to show that Dirk and Shaq have both the similarities and the differences to consist a "sexy" duel. They are both big men, although their game is totally different, they are both leaders in their teams, although having far different characters. - How To Be A Good Little League Coach
You've probably seen it at the local ball field. A well-meaning, but overzealous parent-coach screaming at a team full of little kids as if the World Series was on the line. On the other field, another team is wandering around looking for directions from their coach who is trying to figure out who's up next. What does it take to be a good Little League coach?
The number one virtue Little League coaches need to develop is patience. Children do not have the attention span or the discipline of adults and need to be constantly reminded about technique and sportsmanship. Coaches need patience to work with a large group of children who may be at different levels of expertise. Many major league ball players have stories of making it to the majors because of a coach who never gave up on them. - Differences Between Canadian And American Football
American and Canadian football both descended from rugby and began in Canada as a game played between British soldiers garrisoned in Montreal. The soldiers played a series of games against students at McGill University. McGill played several games against Harvard in 1874 and a tradition was born. Despite their mutual origins, the Canadian and the American game developed differently and now have substantially different rules and regulations.
The biggest difference between Canadian and American football is the size of the playing field. In Canada, football fields are 110 yards long and 65 yards wide. In America football fields are 100 yards long and 53 and 1/3 yards wide. The goal posts in Canadian football are placed at the front, rather than the back of the end zone which is also deeper in Canadian football than American. - The Playstation Experience
A few months ago a friend entered my apartment to announce that he has decided to perform a very important investment for our future in entertainment. I remained calmly at my sit waiting for him to continue and explain how lucky he was as he managed to find an incredible deal over the internet for the newest version of PlayStation 2. Frankly, I could not believe my ears. I have never played PlayStation in the past and the last video game I have played with my friends when I was still a kid, was an old version of Atari. I could not grasp how someone over twenty-five would pay any amount to become another of those inert players stack in front of their TV screens for hours or even days. But the experience I had when PlayStation 2 entered the premises of my house was not exactly as the one I originally imagined. PlayStation has proven to be an extremely fun and instructive gaming experience. After the first couple of weeks I realized that when someone knows how to keep a balanced life it is possible to spend time exploring this unique gaming experience without the feeling of guilt.
Produced by Sony Computer Entertainment, PlayStation 2 is the successor of the original PlayStation console that has been a tremendous worldwide success since its original introduction. By March 2005, the sales margin of PlayStation surpassed the 100.49 million units, becoming the first home console to ever reach the threshold of 100 million sold games. Dated back to 1986, Nintendo was the first to attempt to work with disk technology, but after encountering a number of problems Nintendo decided to approach Sony in order for the second to come up with a solution. Soon Sony recognizing the emerging video-gaming market planned to initiate production of its own console, leading Nintendo's management team to cancel all deals and form an alliance with Philips; this time securing control over its licenses on the Philips developed machines. By the end of 1992, Sony and Nintendo reconciled their major differences and Sony launched the first version of PlayStation in 1994 in Japan. By September 1995, PlayStation was introduced to the USA, European and Asian markets and its initial success was a prelude of its future sales breakthrough challenge. - Sports Violence
In ancient societies, athletics and especially competitive contact games always have been rough, but aggression in the past was tempered by an insistence that playing hard, playing to win, did not countenance playing to cheat and to hurt. One of the very first nations that expressed athletic ideals, were the Greeks. As enunciated by Pindar, the athletic ideal incorporated courage and endurance with modesty, dignity, and fair-mindedness, those elusive qualities the Greeks called Aidos. As sports became more specialized, the general populace increasingly withdrew into spectatorship. Sports history reveals that although Greek sports had increasingly marred by corruption and bribes, nonetheless they flourished in an era which witnessed the rapid expansion of stadiums and arenas under the Roman Empire. During the Roman Empire, violence in sports became the generally accepted principle and spectators not only endorsed it, but also embraced it as a social norm.
In recent years sports violence has become to be perceived as a social problem. Commissions have been appointed in Canada and England to investigate violence among hockey players and soccer fans. Numerous examples of violence in professional sports exist today, as counties like the United States, Canada, Greece, Italy and Germany, report court cases have been heard which concern the victims of violence perpetrators. Newspapers, magazines and television programs portray bloodied athletes and riotous fans at hockey, boxing, football, soccer, baseball, and basketball games with what appears to be increasing regularity. But are sports violence incidents actually increasing, and if so, what is the reason of such a negative increase? Or does the heightened public attention and media focus on sports violence reflect not an increase in the incidence or severity of aggression, but greater public concern with moral issues and political discourse? - Ways To Save Money Grocery Shopping
Grocery shopping bills can really add up! Most people tend to wait until they get to the store to see what they need on a shopping trip, but that can add up to a whole bunch of overspending at the grocery store. In this article, we'll offer up some tips on how to save money when taking your trip to the grocery store.
- Before you leave the house to hit the supermarket, it can be a good idea to check your pantry and do a quick inventory so that you can see exactly what you need. Plus, if you have some odd ingredient hanging out in the cupboard, you can buy something to go with it when you go to the grocery store. - Four Major League Ballparks Worth A Special Trip
This park opened in 1992 and pays homage to the early days of baseball. With its graceful wrought iron embellishments and brick façade, Oriole Park set the new standard for modern ballparks and is still considered the best park in the country by purists. Architects incorporated the B&O Railroad warehouse into the design of the park, creating a pedestrian area called Eutaw Street where fans can stroll before and after the game. Players who actually hit the warehouse with a home run receive a commemorative plaque on the spot. For a relatively new park, Oriole Park has its share of baseball history. On September 6, 1995 Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrig's record of 2,130 consecutive games, one of baseball's most treasured records. - The Legendary Jack Nicklaus
The general consensus seems to be that, at the rate he is going, Tiger Woods is destined to be the greatest golfer of all time before his career is over. That may be true. But he has a ways to go before he can catch the current holder of that title, "The Golden Bear" Jack Nicklaus.
Nicklaus has been a dominant force in golf for four decades, first on the PGA Tour from the 1960s to the mid-to-late 1980s, then on the Champions Tour from the late 1980s to the 1990s. His name is forever linked to that of another great golfer, Arnold Palmer, because together, they ushered in the renaissance of golf. The Palmer-Nicklaus rivalry was so compelling that it made golf a popular TV sport for the first time and spurred interest in the game all across America. - Aikman, White To Hall Of Fame
NFL greats Troy Aikman and the late Reggie White headlined a full class of six inductees into this year's Pro Football Hall of Fame that was announced last February. It was called the most emotional announcement of a Pro Football Hall of Fame class in history. The formal induction ceremony of the class into the Hall of Fame will be on August 5.
The other members of this year's class are Harry Carson, John Madden, Warren Moon and Rayfield Wright. With six people being inducted this year, this class is also the biggest ever inducted since 2001. - Risk Still Makes History
What happens to our old board games when we stop being kids? I always thought that board games are not played by anyone anymore, or at least that was my thought up until recently. Particularly regarding "Risk," which was my favorite board game during my childhood, I used to think that nobody was interested in playing it anymore as I have not heard anyone mention its name for some years now. But, to my surprise, when the new owner of a neighboring apartment called me a month ago to check if I wanted anything from the last tenant's left-over belongings, I could not believe my eyes when I spotted under a pile of old books and clothes the older version of "Risk" I used to play myself.
"Risk" may have been invented in the early 1950s by a French movie director named Albert Lamorisse, but it came into my life when my younger brother was too old to keep playing with his plastic soldiers set. "Risk" soon conquered our routine game time after finishing up the traditional family meal that took place always on Sundays. My brother, my cousin, a couple of our fiends, and I, used to head to the upper floor of our house during those cold winter days or to the balcony during the hot summer ones in order to play what we used to refer to as "the game." Since, in most cases, we were not able to finish an entire game round every Sunday afternoon-the game used to be interrupted by parents who wanted us to go to bed early since we had to go to school the next day-we used to leave the board, the pair of dice, the game's units, the instruction cards and my brother's "Napoleon's hat" at the same place for a whole week up until the following Sunday. - Weekend Tips
If you are tired of having to spend yet another weekend home, perhaps it is time to explore the vicinity of your city and invest some time to learn the specifics of the surrounding areas. Taking time off to relax is not something you should take lightly. Recreational activities are the ones that can assist you to wake up on Monday morning, feeling that this past weekend had something interesting to offer.
Although it is not always convenient to change premises or even towns, getting inside the car and travel through the country side or visit the amusement park nearby can a recreational act. Invest some time to research the opportunities your area offers and then adjust your weekend plans according to your interests. If for example you love hiking and your area has mountain which you have never visited, perhaps it is time to join the local hiking club and begin admiring nature up close. On the other hand, if you do not prefer moving with the car, take the bus or metro of your city and visit the museums, parks, shop districts, and famous sights of your area. You might have been crossing the art museum every morning on your way to work, but you never had time to stop and admire the artifacts that are located inside. Use your weekend time wisely and let yourself enjoy the experience you have been wishing to live. - 3 Reasons You Should Get Out
Come on now, admit it! The last time you were in the shower you saw some of those alarming signs of decadence on your body and face and you couldn't help but thinking that this was yet another of life's cruel ways of telling you that you should take better care of yourself. But, although you decided to pay those heavy dues to the nearest gym facility and did sign up for a whole year's program, you quickly got bored and in less than a month you were out of there. Don't get distressed. There are other things you can do with your free time and still get the exercise your body and mind desperately need. Most importantly there are three reasons why you should open the door and get out again.
Experience the unexpected: Experts state that people need to experience in full every single detail in life if they are to reach a better state, both physically as well as mentally. By exploring new ways of testing your comprehension levels, coordinate your movements, and examine a new sport outdoors, you increase your chances of experiencing the unexpected and having a blast in the meanwhile. Your determination to do something you have never tried before, but this time in the outdoor space, will improve your socializing skills and help you meet new interesting people. Moreover, you will discover new ‘hidden' talents and you will be able to test your abilities. Learn something new can be fun and don't forget that these outdoor experiences will help you ultimately to reinvent yourself. - Improve Your Score
Have you ever been asked how many outdoor activities you had the pleasure of personally experiencing? Well, if I was to ask you right now, what would your answer be? If you were still a kid you would begin by describing each one of them and you would probably try to classify them according to the different categories you would have in mind, like group or individual outdoor activities, sports or leisure time joys, etc. Contemporary individuals, rarely state their favorite outdoor activities and very frequently human resource professionals discover that the "Interests" section in personal resumes is excluded or is rather confined. This usually happens because many working individuals consider it to be rather unprofessional for someone to participate in a variety of outdoor activities! Don't frown, you know what I mean. Having time to do a variety of non-work-related activities is a sign that you have a lot of free time! That consequently means that either you do not take your current job seriously-which might seem extremely negative for a prospective employer-or that you do not sleep enough to maintain or even improve your energy and efficiency levels and be able to perform your daily duties. This, in my opinion, is ridiculous!
Especially in the United States, a country that your extracurricular activities can become your ticket to enter to college or even the reason for someone to receive a higher educational degree, having to justify why you simply enjoy backpacking or kayaking seems absurd. Especially young people, who still have the time and energy to devote to the outdoor activities of their choice, are advised by professional recruitment offices or their working peers to keep their "Interests" list short. They are guided to exclude anything that would illustrate to a future employer that this person is willing to take risks, likes adventure, is always on the go, keeps his body and mind fit or is just curious to discover new ways of exploring life. Well, although I am not yet a career advisor, or your prospective employer, I would strongly suggest to all those looking to find the job of their dreams to state their accomplishments on this personal synopsis of their life on this piece of paper. It all depends on how well you are able to describe something, but I would disagree with those that support that you should exclude such information like the fact that you love climbing, since it might be considered as a risky outdoor activity, when applying for a job opportunity. - Globalization And Sport
During the 20th century, sports took on an increasingly international flavor; aside from the world championships for individual sports, like soccer's World Cup, large-scale international meets, such as the Pan-American games and the Commonwealth games, were inaugurated. Sports have correspondingly become increasingly politicized, as shown in the boycott of the 1980 Moscow games by Western nations and the retaliatory boycott of the 1984 Los Angeles games by Soviet-bloc nations, an exchange brought on by Soviet actions in Afghanistan.
Politics directly related with economic issues, influence the course of action one country might choose against another and affect sports as they are a vital part of a nation's role in the global scene. Individual countries during the recent past have boycotted sport events or used them for propaganda reasons and thus, imposed their political views affecting the global scene. Due to the worlds' interest in sport, the power to influence the public becomes a huge issue and has been the reason for many ‘country-battles' in the recent past. At the same time, the commercialism that accompanied spectator sports gradually engulfed both amateur and professional sports. By the late 20th century, the televising of athletic events had made sports big business. On the other hand, expanding public concern with personal physical health led to mass participation, not necessarily competitive, in sports like running, hiking, cycling, martial arts, and gymnastics. Athletic activity by women expanded, especially after political action in the 1960s and 1970s opened doors to many forms of competition and an increased share of public funding for sports. - Stratego A Synonym To Strategy
It is said that Chess was invented by someone who wanted to prove to his king how weak a monarch is, compared to all the others who live in his kingdom: the pawns, the knights, the bishops, the rooks, and especially the queen. This story really makes me wonder what the inventor of Stratego had in mind when he decided to create this game. That the Flag is the most important part of an army, although it cannot move and it may be captured even by the weakest enemies? That the Marshal can only be captured by a Spy or a Bomb? That preparing for a war is sometimes equally important with the actual war?
It is really difficult to find out, since the origins of Stratego can be traced back to a traditional Chinese board game, called or Game of the Fighting Animals (Dou Shou Qi) or Animal Chess. In its present form Stratego appeared in Europe in the first years of the twentieth century as a game called L'attaque and it is said to be designed by a French lady, called, Hermance Edan. - Enjoy Sledding
Just imagine racing down a snow-covered hill, cold wind blowing in your face, your warm, wool scarf fluttering behind you. You are bouncing up and down, trying to keep yourself on course, but occasionally drifting off to the side. You feel like flying. Sledding is one of the best forms of recreation for a snowy day.
Sledding has been around for hundreds of years and is one of the oldest winter sports. Descriptions of sledding can be found dating back to the 1500s. But it was not until 1885 that the first official sledding race, the Grand National, was held in Switzerland. - Baseball In Japan
In recent years, the arrival in the United States of players like Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui has enlightened Americans about the popularity of the sport in Japan. But most Americans don't know that Japan has almost as long a baseball history as the United States.
The exact date that baseball was introduced in Japan is not known, but it is attributed to American professor Horace Wilson sometime between 1867 and 1912. The Japanese people were immediately intrigued by western baseball, seeing psychological similarities between baseball and their native sports of sumo and martial arts. - The Importance Of Playing Games
You are probably familiar with the exceptional benefits of playing a game. Regardless of one's age and physical ability, games such as golf , billiards, board games, etc. are considered to be those types of recreational activities that people select to try in order to increase their mental and/or physical skills while enjoying the excitement. But since games are played primarily for the mere enjoyment they offer, some people tend to consider them unnecessary and a waste of time. Nothing could further away from the truth. Games increase a person's capabilities and assist in developing a better understanding of ourselves. Games should be fun for one to want to continue practicing them, but they can also have an educational nature. Most importantly, games can affect a person's psychological state leading to excitement and the feeling of one being proud for an accomplishment. Games are not a waste of free time. Actually free time is the time one should devote in exploring his or her abilities through games and have fun in educating and exercising his or her body and mind.
Generally, a game consists of a goal that its players try to reach and usually has a set of rules within which a person has to succeed accomplishing the desired objective. These commonly agreed boundaries exist so as to test peoples' skills and invite them to develop new ways in managing the obstacles that might hinder them from attaining the game's goal. But, due to the vast variety of known games all around the world, agreeing on a single definition has been rather challenging. People in different time periods, countries, and contexts, have tried to capture the essence of games and come up with a classification that could serve all games' purposes. Upon examining some etymological dictionaries, one can conclude that games are a creative expression of the human spirit through the creation of an activity that has an entertaining, instructive and competing element. Regardless if a game is played by a single individual or requires competing teams, involves physical as well as mental activity, has a concrete or loose set of rules and structure, needs some or all of the available resources, it always leads to an outcome. There is usually a winner and a looser and whether a participant belongs to the one or to the other side of this simple distinction makes all the difference in the world. - Explore Outdoor Community Service
Whether or not you have ever personally experienced the excitement and fulfillment associated with community service, it is never too late to take it up a notch. Contemporary community service organizations offer to interested individuals the opportunity to service a community through their actions. Ranging from a simple project like a daycare service for young women professionals and their infants, to a more complex one like building the local school facilities of a village in Eastern Africa, community services are part of a global effort to assist another group of people by offering experts advice and the required set of skills.
But community service, apart from it being an alternative sentencing technique used in criminal justice, it can become a wonderful outdoor experience for those who decide to get involved. Today, some examples of community service projects include a school team cleaning the nearest park, a group of volunteers collecting much needed items such as clothes, shoes, bottle tabs and cans, canned food and packaged water for families in distress, volunteering to help the local fire or police department, taking older people out for a walk, arranging and organizing sport games for people with disabilities, or becoming a guide for blind or deaf people. Regardless of the volunteer effort you provide, outdoor community services can help people reach a better standard of living and you can be satisfied for performing something good for yourself as well for your fellow citizens. - Weekend Equals Recreation
After Friday's lunch-brake, millions of working individuals around the world are checking their office clocks counting the minutes before it is officially allowed for them to go home, relax with their family and friends and put their minds at ease. After all, it is weekend time! But wait, if you think of it again, I believe it slowly comes into focus that weekend time equals "free" time and "free" time means time for recreational activities. What a bummer! You now seem disappointed to leave the office, which looks like a secure environment, and to be forced to go out, have fun, do shopping, meet people you haven't seen for at least a week, take the kids to that theme park you have promised at a moment of weakness, clean the house, do the laundry, organize the garage, join your sport club, watch the game from your special reserved seats, organize that barbecue everyone has been waiting for, and so on. Well, I might have been carried away, since some of these activities cannot be considered recreational, but a lot of others, even if not included in this list, are. Before turning back to reenter your office premises, try to maintain your optimistic side alive and realize that yes, weekends are short, but they are still your chance to elude and experience in full the recreational activity of your choice.
You have been waiting for the right time to announce to your folks that you are ready to join your friends and begin those scuba diving lessons you wanted for so long. When you actually managed to convince them that you will be careful and that sharks cannot be found anywhere near your instructor's pool, you have to squeeze the classes into your busy weekend schedule and still manage to do all the other things you have been postponing for a while. Cut yourself some slack here! You are an energetic individual that has lots of things to worry about during the week. Don't add to you worries the fact that you will not be able to go out with your female friend and help her select a new set of curtains to match her recently acquired living room leather couch. You hate promising and then breaking a promise, but if you are honest with yourself, your needs, and with your friend, it is more likely that she will forgive you this time. Just don't make it a habit. What I am trying to say here is that you should put some priorities in your life and select which recreational activity to do when, depending on your needs and wants. You should not become an egoistic person that never considers other peoples' thoughts and feelings, but at the same time you should not forget that your own time is your own to invest where you see fit. Try to find the balance between what you need for yourself, what others need from you and what you want to succeed at the end of the day; much like the office deal you know how to handle. Guard your weekend time as your precious time to do the things you want the most. - Cut Yourself Some Slack
We all have had our portion of bad days; they are inevitable. Living in the realm of today's busy working schedules, while not allowing our bodies and minds to experience any relaxing time or enjoying life's simple pleasures, has led us feeling physically ill or emotionally worn out. It is time to realize that this is actually a normal outcome of pushing yourself too hard. But what is not normal is allowing this depressing state to continue without doing anything to reverse its negative outcomes.
When the advice of "cutting yourself some slack" is given to you not only by columnists or experts, but also by friends, then you have to reconsider your actions and daily routine and perform any necessary changes to allow yourself some time to breath. Working individuals suffer today from a common problem; being always too busy. Instead of multitasking when you are in the house or simply deciding to stay indoors because you do not think you have the necessary energy to perform anything else, react! Make yourself get out the door and begin experiencing the life you believe you deserve. Begin by calling friends or joining a group of people that are willing to explore life's choices while being outdoors. Close the door behind you and let work problems exist only when you are in the office. - The Politics Behind Olympics Games
Among the Greeks, fitness competitions and games were nationalistic in spirit; states were said to have been prouder of Olympic victories than of battles won. Women, foreigners, slaves, and dishonored persons were forbidden to compete. Contestants were required to train faithfully for 10 months before the games and had to take an oath that they had fulfilled the training requirements before participating. At first, the Olympic Games were confined to running, but over time new events were added. The winners of the Olympics were crowned with chaplets of wild olive, and in their home city-states male champions were also awarded valuable gifts and privileges.
As a visible focus of world energies, the Olympic Games have been prey to many factors that have thwarted their ideals of world co-operation and athletic excellence. Like in ancient Greece, nationalistic fervour has fostered intense rivalries that have at times threatened the survival of the games. Although officially only individuals are able to win Olympic medals, nations routinely assign political significance to the feats of their citizens and teams. For example, between 1952 and 1988 rivalry between the United States and the Soviet Union, rooted in mutual political antagonism, resulted in each boycotting games hosted by the other (Moscow, 1980; Los Angeles, 1984). - Three On Three The Solution
You like playing basketball, right? Yes you do. On the other hand you are not young any more (this phrase is applicable to people from 19 to 80) and you do not feel capable of running up and down the full court. It is difficult to find nine players and to play five on five. You do not have a basketball court with the official size close to your place and the last time you played, Michael Jordan was still with Chicago Bulls. Now you are really disappointed and you feel that the only thing you have among the ones needed for a good game is a ball, and you are not really sure if it is in the attic, the garage or the trash can. So, are you going to sit on your couch and watch Dwayne Wade playing against Dirk Nowitzki? Or are you going to play a basketball game on play station? I thought you said that you like playing basketball not watching it on TV.
If there is just one single basket in your neighborhood you don't have to be neither disappointed nor lazy. The solution to your problem is called three-on-three. Just as five-on-five basketball is best played on a full court, three-on-three is made for a half court. If this sounds promising, I am sure that you will find your ball somewhere or in worst case scenario you can buy a new one. Moreover, it is far easier to find five more people to play with you instead of nine, and you can always attract their attention by mentioning that they will not have to run up and down a five-on-five full court, but just half of it. - A World Cup For A Non American Football
Which is the greatest team sports' event? For most US Americans the "Super Bowll" would be an easy answer. Others, mostly attracted by baseball, basketball, or hockey, would choose one of those sports' finals or all-star games, but this is not the case for the rest of the world. Outside of the US when people say football they refer to the sport that is known as soccer in United States and which is by far the most popular sport in all of the five continents. The World Cup that takes place over a four-year period is considered as the most important athletic competition, being more widely-viewed on TV exceeding even the Olympic Games. In 2002, when North Korea and Japan co-hosted the World Cup the cumulative TV audience was estimated to be 28.8 billion, while 1.1 billion individuals watched the final match of the tournament between Brazil and Germany.
This year the World Cup takes place in Germany with the first mach between Germany and Costa Rica being scheduled on 9th of June and the last one, the final game which is going to take place one month later on the 9th of July in Berlin. Thirty-two national teams are participating in this great "party" of world soccer and they will play in a total of twelve German cities. Among the national teams, which participate 14 come from Europe, 5 from Africa, 4 from South America, 4 from Asia, 4 from North and Central America and 1 from Oceania. - Bar Hopping In Vegas
Las Vegas. The name says it all. Vegas is a town where you can be whoever you want to be and do (pretty much!) whatever you want to do. In that sense, the city is often overwhelming to those who are going; many of the great aspects of Vegas are overlooked by visitors simply because there is SO much to do there. To that end, we've made this article as a guide to those who wish to hit the best bars that can be found in the city of sin.
For those who wish for a touch of class and an old-school feel to their bar, visiting the Empire Ballroom is a must. This bar was modeled after a 1930's speakeasy-type bar, and its lush 16,000 square feet provide nothing but class and decadence. The bar has a number of private VIP rooms as well as a host of opportunities to get away from the dance floor with its outdoor patios. One thing to note about the ballroom: if you're not exactly ready for the night to end early, an after-party is hosted at the Empire that lasts from 3AM to 10AM, every weeknight! - Throwing A Fantasy Football Draft Party
When a bunch of guys get together to talk football usually all you need to keep everyone happy is pizza and beer. But, since it actually involves work, a successful fantasy football draft party has a few more important parts.
Set up a large space with enough seating for everyone in your league. Comfortable seating like recliners or couches is a plus, but kitchen chairs will do in a pinch. If you're planning to seat your members in a living room or den rather than at a table, provide clipboards to serve as writing surfaces. Be aware that some of your members may arrive with laptop computers so providing work surfaces like portable tables is a good idea. Of course you'll also need adequate outlets nearby in case anyone needs to plug in. - Outdoors Team Building
Team building means different things to different people, ranging from a fun experience to serious intentions of behavioral change. According to its official definition, team building refers to the process of establishing and developing a greater sense of collaboration and trust between team members. A variety of organizations, companies, schools and other institutions have decided to invest in team building by participating in interactive exercises, team assessment techniques and group discussions that enable people to cultivate this greater sense of teamwork.
Among the contexts of team building is that of sport clubs and work organizations. But what one should examine further is the need for team building. As modern trends show, societies and cultures have been dynamically interacting with each other and thus constructing a shared system of beliefs and values. Anticipating this development, different organizations and stakeholders have begun investing in their people by introducing them to the notion of team building and productive exchange. Greatly influenced by contemporary networks, this shift has resulted in a communications revolution and the creation of a truly global market system. Consequently, the new types of labor and the increased level of specialization required has caused individuals to be able and willing to relocate with much greater ease than in the past and to continue being productive in their new environment; whether that is a city or another country. But changing jobs and joining new groups is never easy and people need time to adjust and explore their new surroundings. Human beings still possess the necessary survival instinct and are always ready to try and overcome obstacles and differences if they are provided with the necessary tools. Willing individuals can surpass behavior patterns and cultural differences and understand the big picture that the path towards efficient and effective teams is not to have team members being indifferent to one another, but to understand and accept that the existing variations are what make a team be unique. - Make It Yourself
Hobbies can take almost any direction and form. From escaping into the unknown wilderness of a nearest national park to creating the cake of your best friend's wedding, your hobbies reflect a part of your personality; obvious or rather well hidden. Some of my favorite hobbies include painting, traveling, conversing, cooking and dinning, walking and doing things on my own. Like many people around the globe, I take joy out of making things with my hands and exercise my mind in discovering new ways of using old things one would throw out instantly as waste. If you think this article is not for you, try remembering your grandma's best recipe or when was the last time you found a new way to use those worn out clothes. Now maybe you can understand why making things can become a relaxing recreational experience that has a direct result and costs almost nothing more than time; which you will spend anyway, if you are determined to find at a store that special piece you are looking for.
While you can go window shopping till you drop from exhaustion trying to find the perfect present for your friend's birthday celebration, it would be rather interesting if you considered making something yourself instead. Apart from exploring your craft skills and realizing that an item can have more than its usual commercial application, your friend will be delighted to receive a gift that took you time to prepare and has your personal touch engraved all over it. From birthday cards, to picture frames, or even to a whole new attire, making something on your own can prove to be a rather fulfilling experience, which can offer you a high level of personal satisfaction and a sense of accomplishment that are not always earned during your heavy daily schedule. Thus, I strongly recommend to you to try putting your skills to better use and rather than suffering from calluses on your toes after hours of endless search, to offer yourself a way to express its creative side and save some money in the meantime. - The Pleasure Of Transforming Your Hobby Into Your Profession
If a hobby is a spare-time recreational pursuit, could you count the number of hobbies you have practiced over the past or you are still pursuing now and then that have given you some kind of return apart from the psychological one? In case you can identify even one, then you probably already know all there is to know about the pleasure of having a hobby as a profession. But if your hobby list is empty, or you are unsure if one of the things you are doing or have done during your free time could be categorized as a hobby turned into a profession, then you should better invest some time in reading the text that follows.
First of all, you should know that hobbies are practiced due to a person's interest on something and for the enjoyment that hobby can bring to the individual, rather than for financial reward that can result from the outcome of someone's efforts. Whether you are a collector, a crafter, a sports fun, or a painter, engaging in a hobby can lead you to acquiring a certain set of skills and advance substantially your capabilities, knowledge-base and experiences. But remember that these outcomes are directly related to the personal fulfillment a person receives from practicing the hobby of his or her choice. - Organize The First Party Game
Instead of having to spend yet another weekend doing the same old routine of grocery shopping, washing your laundry, and cleaning the house, perhaps it is time to organize a party that will have a theme you are so familiar with since your childhood years. In fact, introducing the theme of a game party can make your friends wonder what you found while cleaning your closet and which game did the box you decided to open contained. Well, the answer is simple; memories. A box full of memories that you want to offer back to the people that are now in your life.
If you agree that this romantic idea might be of your friends' liking, then create some online e-mail cards, send them over to their e-mail inboxes during the middle of the week, select a party theme, any game's title could do, like "Monopoly" and then ask each one of them to bring something no one else would ever consider they would bring. When everyone arrives, put the party games you would like to play with your friends at the center of the room and ask them all to vote. You can even vote on how many times you would like to play each game that night. Since after the voting you will know which of the games are going to be played, you can put the rest of the boxes back into place and join the group. - Fantasy Football Provides Fans With Interactivity
When it comes to developments in sports entertainment, without a doubt, fantasy football has been one of the biggest trends over the past few years. With its invention occurring over forty years ago, fantasy football never really found a strong fan base until the explosion of the internet. Now, fans across the world are united, watching their games with their laptops ready, making trades and shouting as if they were Wall Street stockbrokers.
Its origin is credited to Bill Winkenbach, an Oakland Raiders partner who discussed his idea for the game with reporters in New York. They created the rules, and fantasy football was born. Years later, the internet is abuzz with thousands of sites dedicating themselves to the latest stats and news regarding players, allowing fans to get an edge at beating their friends. Fantasy football consists of individually governed leagues consisting of around 10 to 12 players. Drafts are chosen from the NFL roster and from week to week, you face off one on one versus other players to see who's dream team performs the best that week. Points are tabulated, and a winner of the league is crowned based on their win-loss record versus the other players. Many sites offer the opportunity to set up a league free of charge with extra stats and updates sometimes being offered for an extra charge. - Briefly Examining The Football Controversy
By far the most popular sport worldwide is football. Every year, millions of fans come together to experience the exciting moments offered by football players in venues around the globe. Being a team sport, football not only exercises the human body and mind, but also brings people together to produce measurable results. With famous players from every country, like the Brazilians Pelé and Zico, or the Hungarian Puskás, football-which is usually referred to as Association football in order to distinguish it from rugby football-has literally been worshiped mainly by male fans.
At least once, every boy in almost every neighborhood has been invited to participate in a friendly match of football -also known as "soccer." Promoted by international competitions like the Olympic Games and the FIFA World Cup, both held every four years, football has become the main subject of several discussions held among men and a cause of tremendous joy or misery. Watching a great goal or loosing a game can be the subjects of debate or celebration amongst football fans, sports writers and athletes alike. But, most importantly, football unites and excites people of all ages everywhere in the world regardless of their religion, their culture, or their political and ethnical backgrounds. - Your Sport Is Pool
Pocket Billiards tables, sometimes simply called pool tables, are part of a great alternative sport, the Pool or Billiards. For those who wish to spend an evening out with friends and play an exciting new game, pool is also a great start for amateurs. If you have long been searching for your next sophisticated sports game and chess is not anymore one of your options, perhaps it is time for you should to consider playing a game of pool and see how strategy, creativity and determination can be combined. Owning or renting one for a few hours, the pool table can indeed be one of those addictions nobody will advise you ever to drop.
If your basement or living room is spacious enough to accommodate a 7-feet, 8-feet, or 9-feet pool you will soon be able to admire how ingenious such an investment can be. Since it can be easily hidden under flat hardwood table-top surfaces, a pool table can become a multidimensional, exciting dinner table, which you can first use to entertain people by displaying some of your best cooking recipes and later enhance their evening by inviting them to a friendly straight pool competition. If the cost of a pool table exceeds your current financial budget, or if space is not an option either, then initiating a pool game night out with friends, once a month, can be your fun and creative get-together experience. For what its worth, holding a cue, using a chalk to sharpen its end, and most importantly, strike a ball, can certainly get you into a much better mood than sitting around the house watching television or surfing the Net boring yourself to death. - Your Sport Is Pool

George Herman Ruth, better known as "Babe Ruth", is widely regarded as the greatest baseball player in the history of the game. Also known as "The Bambino" and "The Sultan of Swat," a virtual home run machine whose exploits off the diamond were as colorful as the wonders he pulled off while on it. He was a national icon in every sense of the word and one of the key figures of the Roaring Twenties of American history.
Ruth was among the first five players to be inducted to the Baseball Hall of Fame. He was the first truly great baseball player and his excellence on the field inspired everyone to watch the game, including several generations of great baseball players who would follow after him. Ruth was the first player to hit over 30, 40 and 50 home runs in one season. In the 1927 season, he slammed 60 home runs, a record which stood for 34 years until Roger Maris broke it in 1961. - The America’s Cup
When you talk about the best sailing competitions in the world, all discussions start and end with The America’s Cup. It is by far the most popular and the most heralded regatta in the sports of sailing. Known as the Holy Grail of yachting, The America’s Cup is also the oldest active international competition where a trophy is at stake. It is older than the FA Cup by over 20 years and older than the Modern Olympics by nearly five decades. It is no wonder why the best sailors and leading yacht designers and manufacturers in the world all come out, eager to make their presence felt, when The America’s Cup comes around.
The Cup is named after the very first winner of this competition, a schooner called America, which won the Cup in 1852. In this competition, the trophy stays in the hands of the winner until the next competition and only changes hands if the champion is dislodged. The schooner America prevailed in this event for a stunning 132 years, a record for the longest winning streak in sports history, before relinquishing it in 1983 to Australia II from Australia. After over a century, the Cup left America for the land down under. - Dallas Cowboys
The Dallas Cowboys have often been referred to as "America's Team" and it's pretty easy to see why. They clearly have the most number of fans among all NFL teams, thanks to their storied history and their phalanx of great players.
The Cowboys, who currently play in the suburb of Irving in Dallas, Texas, have the most Super Bowl appearances with eight. They also hold the record for the most Super Bowl championships in the NFL with five, a record that they share with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the San Francisco 49ers. Before the NFL and AFL merged, the Cowboys reached the NFL championship game twice. - Michael Schumacher
It was a sad day in the world of automotive racing when Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from competition on September 10, 2006.
Born in Germany in 1969, Michael Schumacher is arguably the greatest Formula One race car driver who ever lived. He has won the Formula One world championship seven times, the most by any individual. He also holds a number of other impressive Formula One records, including most number of race victories, most number of pole positions, fastest laps ever and most races won in one season. - How Chess Terms Were Derived
I’ve always been fascinated by chess. Today, I’m a whiz at planning strategy and using the various pieces to best advantage. But I still remember how I got hooked on chess as a young kid. Of course, like most kids, my love affair with chess started by watching my elders play. My eyebrows would always rise and I would always be spellbound whenever one of my elder cousins would exclaim “checkmate” which a triumphant smile and a gleam in his eyes. I told myself, I want that feeling, too. So, I started to play chess.
When I found out exactly how checkmate got its meaning, I was hooked all the more. Apparently, the word ‘checkmate’ comes from the English translation of the Persian phras “shah mat” which means “the king is finished”. As an impressionable young child with dreams of heroism and courage in warfare, slaying an opponent’s king was the ultimate for me. And even the pieces have such interesting meanings. - Ping Pong
It's hard to go out with a girl who is better at a sport than you are. Unlike most girls who grew up playing with dolls or dressing up in their mother's clothes and shoes, my girlfriend Cindy's favorite recreation is ping pong. She had been playing the game since she was five years old and is now a member of her school's ping pong team. Yes, she's that good.
I also know a thing or two about ping pong and actually considered myself quite handy at the game. That is, until I started playing against Cindy. She humiliates me at ping pong quite regularly, as a matter of fact. And because of this, I have become an ardent student of the game. I even know the history of ping pong. - Larry Legend
Larry Bird is widely regarded as one of the three greatest NBA players to ever lace up their sneakers on basketball’s premiere stage alongside Michael Jordan and Magic Johnson. He led the Celtics to three NBA championships in the eighties before retiring from the NBA in 1992. In 1996, he was voted to the NBA's 50th Anniversary All-Time Team. He was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1998.
Bird was born in West Baden Springs, Indiana and his family experienced much financial difficulty during his early years. The Bird family was also embroiled in personal turmoil, which came to a head when his father, Joe Bird, committed suicide in 1975. Bird admits that being poor motivated a great deal. His humble beginnings also earned him the "The Hick From French Lick - The Legacy Of Michael Jordan
Although he has been retired for several years now, Michael Jordan is still widely regarded as the greatest basketball player to ever play the game. His influence was felt not only in the way the game was played, but also in how it was perceived around the world. Ultimately, his excellence at his sport was instrumental in catapulting the popularity of basketball and the National Basketball Association all over the world during the eighties and nineties. Beyond all this, Jordan was also a marketing force and was hands-down the most successfully marketed athlete of his generation and, possibly, all time. In 1999, Jordan was named by ESPN as “the greatest athlete of the 20th century.”
Jordan retired from the NBA after 15 seasons, during which he established a number of prestigious records. His 30.12 points per game average is the highest ever in NBA history. He also won six NBA titles with the Chicago Bulls and was the MVP of the NBA Finals every time they claimed the championship. In addition, Jordan has been the NBA’s leading scorer for 10 straight seasons and was the league’s Most Valuable Player five times. He was also selected to the All-NBA First Team 10 times, the All-Defensive First Team nine times aside from leading the NBA in steals in three years. The Associated Press also ranked him as second only to Babe Ruth as top athlete of the century. - The Traditional American Game
Like life in traditional society, but unlike football and basketball, the other two major American team sports, baseball is not governed by the clock and amazes many foreigners that it is the "national sport" in a fast-paced United States. Being a very popular team sport, apart from North America also in Latin America, the Caribbean and East Asia, baseball is a bat-and-ball game in which a pitcher throws a fist-sized hard ball past the hitting area of a batter. The batter, who belongs to the other team, then attempts to hit the ball with a smooth, cylindrical bat made of wood or metal. The team will score only when the batter manages to successfully batting the ball and then runs over four markers existing on the diamond-shaped baseball field, placed on a ninety feet distance from each other and called bases, while his opponents try at the same time to catch the ball and successfully throw it by using their hands to their teammates located at each of the four bases before the batter manages to cover the last ninety feet and reach the last base.
While a football game comprises exactly sixty minutes of play and a basketball game forty or forty-eight minutes, baseball has no set game duration. The pace of the game is therefore leisurely and unhurried, like the world was once, before the deadlines, schedules and hour wages. As a matter of fact, baseball belongs to that time when people had all day to play a game. Much like traditional rural life, baseball proceeds according to the rhythm of nature, specifically the rotation of the Earth around itself and the Sun. In fact, during its early years, baseball was not played during the night, which meant that this traditional leisure game was over before sunset at the latest.
