  • Effective Discipline For Two Year Olds
The "terrible" twos are a time of great change for most children. They are learning how to be independent and often defy their parents, yet this newfound freedom sometimes frightens them. They can understand far more complex concepts than they can express verbally, leading to frustration and tantrums. They are endlessly curious about the world around them but they have not developed a sense of personal safety, so they don't understand why certain activities are off limits.

With all the conflicting advice parents receive about discipline, it's easy to forget that the word "discipline" means "to teach." Many situations requiring discipline at this age can be turned into learning experiences for both you and your child. Approaching difficult situations with that concept firmly in mind can help you discipline even the most difficult preschooler.
  • Transforming Your Kids Free Time
Kids' free time usually leads to parents' busier periods. But this does not have to be the case. When your kids come home from school or their extracurricular activities, you can continue giving the choice of doing something fun and educative at the same time. If homework and reading for next day's classes is already completed, you can let them choose another type of leisure activity and add a lot of great kid-oriented fun to their daily routine.

If you are wondering how to choose a daily or weekend activity, you should better ask your kids first what they prefer doing. You can prepare beforehand a list of choices and let them choose the ones that they prefer doing alone or along your side and guidance. Visiting a kid's venue, crafting a photo album, painting a huge board to hang it in their bedroom wall, going out to play sports, or meet friends and enjoy a movie or a theatrical presentation, can lead you to experience another type of productive time along with your kids and them to adore you for offering them the chance of doing something different and testing their abilities.
  • The Stress Of Becoming A Dad
One of my early childhood memories is the description my mother's best friend and my father's cousin revealed regarding my father's reaction when I was born. Sharing a very close relationship with my father and him being among the kindest and toughest people I have encountered (a unique combination I must admit) I was shocked to hear that the day his first child was born he felt that his life has changed forever. In fact, my father is not the only man that experienced post-birth stress. Millions of fathers have experienced the feeling my father had when my mother's best friend entered the room to announce that he was the proud father of a healthy daughter. At the moment the exciting news were revealed my father turned towards the window of the clinic were my mother has just given birth to me and replied with a calm voice "Now nothing will ever be the same."

Stress can be caused from a variety of factors and most frequently these have to do with work-related issues and family or economic problems. But carrying your first child back home from the hospital and realizing that you are now responsible for another human being's life, can be a tremendous shock men are not always capable of handling.
  • Show You Trust And It Will Be Returned
Parenting is not something one should ever take lightly. Having children is a 24-hours business and taking good care of your kids is something you should invest time to study and learn; preferably not on their expense. But very few parents are always conscious of the fact that their present choices and behavior can and will shape the character of their kids. Treating your child with the same respect and attention you want it to treat you later is not always what parents focus on today. Job related problems, economic worries, stress, and less free time, can make parents grouchy, which in turn can lead children to their rooms feeling isolated and unappreciated.

I do not doubt that you love your child. Actually, in a perfect world all parents would. But respecting their choices and understanding their fears are areas that parents need to pay special attention to. Family studies over the years have shown that children problems like eating disorders, depression, and aggressiveness, are directly linked with the child's psychological state, which greatly depends on how appreciated it feels and if it can trust and be trusted by its parents.
  • Protection From P*rn Online
With the prevalence of p*rn sites and advertisements on the Internet that seem to just pop up out of nowhere, people are wondering if they are inadvertently breaking the law every time they open one of these sites.

In general, the answer is 'yes' since local community laws regard the possession of material that is offensive as illegal almost anywhere in the USA, except in certain communities such as Tahoe or Las Vegas, Nevada and New York City. But if you live elsewhere, you may have a problem say, if local authorities confiscate your computer and find p*rn in your files. Technically, you can be charged with a violation of decency laws, especially in a conservative community. However, there are rarely any prosecutions in these cases.
  • Parents As Role Models
While television and other media have made it a practice to anoint well-known celebrities as positive role models for kids, the great majority of people still believe that parents should be the foremost role models of their children. The following is a compilation of various ways that can help parents become better role models for their kids.

In terms of nurturing children, the most common comment is to show your love and concern. Tell them you love them every day and show affection daily through hugs, kisses and touches. In spite of busy schedules, make time for special family fun activities. Also make the effort to meet your child's friends to build stronger rapport with them and to gauge the influence they exert on your kids.
  • Homework Tips For Kids & Teens
Homework has been a perennial headache for kids and teens as well as for their parents. Following are some tips to make homework time more effective and enjoyable for all concerned.

    1. No TV. As a general rule, kids should not watch TV while doing their homework. It might be a good policy to have the television turned off any time it's time to do homework, depending, of course, where the television is located.
  • Skateboarding In The Eighties To The Present
Skateboarding traces its roots to the seventies but it really reached the peak of its popularity in the mid-eighties to the present when major skateboard manufacturers propelled it to new heights. First, they started with half-pipe and vert ramp skateboarding. The manufacturers upgraded the boards to make their decks very wide and to equip them with larger and wider wheels.

As the years went by, the focus shifted to street skateboarding, which brought about a few changes in deck shape and wheel size. With the growing popularity of street skating, new stars rose to prominence, such as Mark Gonzales, one of street skating's pioneers. Gonzales is recognized as one of the first skateboarders to ollie up a curb and to clear a set of stairs. By this time, manufacturers had shifted their focus to maple plywood over more exotic composite materials. Concave decks were now everywhere.
