Besides my cousin on my mother’s side having the disease, on my biological father’s side, my grandfather had it. So my emphasis has always been (as it was taught to me) how to prevent Diabetes from setting in if you are genetically prone to it but don’t yet have it. - How To Avoid Cholesterol Medication When You Have Diabetes

Having been Type I diabetic for over 14 years, I am always looking to improve my diabetes treatment. I have gone through teenage hormonal changes, two pregnancies and general illness all without much incidence, and I would like to keep it that way. Diabetes can be a very scary thing but with the proper diabetes treatment, it is most certainly a manageable disease.
There are two types of diabetes; Type I which is usually diagnosed during childhood, and Type II which is generally diagnosed after the age of 18. Each require a different set of diabetes treatment, mainly because a person with Type I does not produce any insulin on their own while a person with Type II is just extremely insulin resistant or makes very little insulin. - Sugar Not Handled By Diabetes Mellitus
Although it is most often referred to by the name diabetes, diabetes mellitus is a treatable, chronic metabolic disorder, affecting the body’s ability to metabolize carbohydrates. Whether it is due to the body’s inability to produce insulin to disperse the sugar from the blood stream or the inability of the produced insulin to do so is what determines which stage of diabetes mellitus from which a person suffers.
Type I diabetes mellitus is when the body cannot produce insulin due to the destruction of the cells that produce insulin while Type 2 is when the body’s tissues offer a resistance to the insulin being produced. A third type, gestational diabetes, typically has its onset during pregnancy. Although considered Type I, 2 and 3 diabetes mellitus, it is not really three separate diseases, but different stages of pancreatic failure.
